Lakers’ Quincy Olivari makes major promise to fulfill Steph Curry's special request
LA Lakers two-way guard Quincy Olivari scored his first NBA basket during Sunday's 107-98 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. Afterward, Olivari's childhood idol, Golden State Warriors superstar point guard Steph Curry, requested his game-worn shoes, with the rookie happily obliging.
Olivari, an undrafted guard out of Xavier, went viral during the preseason for his unexpectedly strong play and later inked a two-way contract with LA. Over the course of the Lakers' exhibition schedule, he had the opportunity to meet Curry, and the two have maintained a relationship ever since.
On Friday, Olivari became the second active NBA player to sign a shoe endorsement deal with Curry's Under Armour sportswear line, Curry Brand. The signing came amid his standout production with the NBA G League's South Bay Lakers.
Two days later, Olivari earned his first NBA playing time against Portland. He logged eight minutes off the bench, converting on 1-of-3 shot attempts (33.3%). The rookie's first points came on a wing 3-pointer early in the second quarter that ripped the twine.
Following the contest, Curry was informed about Olivari's career milestone and was jokingly asked when the undrafted guard's "signature shoe drops."
The two-time MVP laughed off the question before conveying appreciation for having Olivari "on the squad." Curry added that the two-way player's first bucket was "good timing" before requesting his game-worn shoes from Sunday.
"I don't know what kicks he had on tonight but I'mma try to get 'em signed for me," Curry said.
On Monday, Olivari responded on X/Twitter, appearing eager to fulfill Curry's special request.
"I had on (your) 'Saw' Curry 1 Low PEs. (They're) coming right back to you," Olivari said.

Quincy Olivari on his opportunity to sign shoe endorsement deal with Steph Curry's sportswear line
After signing a shoe endorsement deal with Curry Brand, Quincy Olivari touched on the moment's surrealness. He added how grateful he was to see his hard work come to fruition.
"It's a huge accomplishment. I think playing into the little joke that was going on in the preseason, it feels like (NBA) 2K, almost like a video game, man," Olivari said. "But it's a blessing, and it's just a reap-what-you-sow type of thing, just continuing with my hard work. Just making sure that I keep the main thing the main thing, and more blessings will come."
Through seven G League outings, Olivari is averaging 18.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.4 3-pointers per game, shooting 38.6% and 40.7% from deep.
His next chance to suit up with the Lakers (13-11) and add to his NBA point total comes on Friday when they visit the Minnesota Timberwolves (12-11).
