Lakers Trade Rumors: Brooklyn Nets $14.92 million forward could be ideal upgrade on defense for Anthony Davis and Co.

The Los Angeles Lakers have struggled despite having a surprisingly strong start this season. Their 41 points drubbing at the hands of the Miami Heat suggests that they don't have a championship-winning team yet.

According to Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report, the Lakers in a hypothetical case would trade D'Angelo Russell, Cam Reddish, Christian Wood and a top-five protected 2029 first-round pick for Brooklyn Nets' Dorian Finney-Smith and former player Dennis Schroder.

Dorian Finney-Smith's trade rumors started last season. The Purple and Gold have been in "constant contact" with the Nets, according to Anthony F. Irwin. Also, HoopsHype's Michael Sotto suggested that Finney-Smith could be an option for the Nets if they want to make significant trade moves.

Finney-Smith will earn $14.92 million this season. He has a player option in his contract and if agreed, he could earn $15.3 million next season.

This season he is averaging 10.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists, and with his form, coupled with defensive presence and strong wing play, he could be the ideal candidate to team up with the Lakers superstar duo of Anthony Davis and LeBron James.

What next for the Los Angeles Lakers as the year comes to an end?

The Los Angeles Lakers have had ups and downs this season, with their away form (5-8) a cause for concern. This month, they have won two out of five games, the 105-104 win against the Utah Jazz and the 107-98 over the Portland Trail Blazers.

However, their defeats have come against tough opponents such as the Atlanta Hawks, Miami Heat, and Timberwolves, and the upcoming games will not be any easier. They finish the year with games against the Minnesota Timberwolves (12-11), Memphis Grizzlies (17-8), Sacramento Kings (12-13) (three times), Detroit Pistons (10-15), and Golden State Warriors (14-9).

How rookie coach JJ Reddick and his band of stars perform in these games will determine their fate come the postseason. Regardless of what happens, their front office will have to make some tough decisions to give future Hall of Famer, LeBron James a shot at another championship ring.
