Kemba Walker excited to work with LaMelo Ball in upcoming NBA season
After retiring from basketball, Charlotte Hornets legend Kemba Walker has joined the team's coaching staff as a player enhancement coach.
Walker, who played for the Hornets from 2011 to 2019, joined Charles Lee’s coaching team after a year with French League's AS Monaco.
"I think we can go anywhere that they want to go," Walker said about the Hornets. "I think we have the right pieces, starting with LaMelo. Super excited to get the opportunity to work with him. One of the reasons why I said yes to the job."
Walker believes that with LaMelo Ball, the Hornets have significant potential.
“It just made sense, it just flowed. You got Melo, who's unbelievable talent, he's special. Watching him on the court, I can see this organization going really far."
The Charlotte Hornets have an 82-102 record with Ball all-time. Though he had limited playing time last season due to injury, it allowed the team to discover new talents like Tre Mann and Vasilijie Micic, who they acquired from the Thunder.
This season, they’ve added Moussa Diabate, Taj Gibson and Josh Green, and drafted Tidjane Salaun from France and KJ Simpson from Colorado.
Additionally, they re-signed Miles Bridges and Seth Curry.
The farthest the Hornets have reached with Ball leading the way is the NBA Play-In Tournament. Unfortunately, in the two years they qualified for the play-in, they were blown out both times.
