Larsa Pippen backs son & Summer League MVP frontrunner Scotty Pippen Jr.'s 'best defender' claim as Memphis stays undefeated

Scotty Pippen Jr. is having an amazing summer season. The son of NBA legend Scottie Pippen and his former wife, Larsa Pippen, has shown significant promise and is in contention for the Summer League MVP.

Earlier on Saturday, Pippen Jr.'s mother backed her son's claim of being the best defender in the Summer League.

"I am the best defender in the Summer League," Pippen Jr. said in the video.

Posting the video, Larsa wrote,

"Facts," tagging her son.

This is not the first time Larsa Pippen has shown support for her son during this summer league. The former wife of the NBA legend has also attended her son's games.

Scotty Pippen Jr. has a legitimate chance to win MVP in the Summer League

Despite being the son of the NBA legend, Pippen Jr. has struggled to get himself solidified on the Grizzlies roster, especially as a backup point guard.

However, things might be changing for Scotty Pippen Jr. after his promising start in the Summer League. He is one of the leading candidates for the MVP award, with his exploits on both ends of the floor.

In four games, Pippen Jr. is averaging 19.3 points (14th rank in the league), 7.8 assists (third) and 3.5 steals (third), shooting 54.0%, including 33.3% from the 3-point range.

One of the reasons Pippen Jr.’s impact could be more appreciated is because of how the Grizzlies have performed so far in the Summer League. The Grizzlies are one of the four teams so far that haven’t lost a single game in this SL. The Grizzlies are second among the 30 teams in points scored per game.

They are fourth in the league in field goal percentage and seventh in the league in 3-point percentage. Moreover, the Grizzlies lead the league in steals per game with 13.3.
