LeBron James' former teammate J.R. Smith has blunt one word response to Travis Hunter's fiancée's defense after Heisman drama
Throughout his playing career, J.R. Smith was always a player never shy to say what was on his mind. Recently, the former NBA champion chimed in on the latest drama in the sports world.
Over the weekend, college football announced its latest winner of the Heisman trophy. The prestigious honor went to Colorado wide receiver Travis Hunter, but the spotlight has been put on his fiancée. There has been endless talk about her actions online, as some feel she had to be told to give Hunter a standing ovation by Deion Sanders.
Following all the discourse on social media, Hunter's fiancée posted a video online giving her side of the story. She stated why her reaction was delayed and that she did not have to be told to stand up.
J.R. Smith ended up commenting on this post and gave his thoughts on the situation with a one-word answer. The former Sixth Man of the Year is not buying this response from Hunter's fiancée.
Smith spent 16 years in the NBA, retiring back in 2020. While he bounced around the league, the offensive-minded guard is most remembered for his time playing alongside LeBron James. Smith won two titles alongside the 20-time All-Star, first with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016 and then with the LA Lakers in 2020.
J.R. Smith gives honest answer regarding NBA Cup winnings
Aside from his three-point shooting and eye-popping dunks, J.R. Smith made a name for himself with his off-court personality. This was on full display when sharing his thoughts on one of the NBA's new additions.
Since he retired, one of the things the league has implemented is the in-season tournament. Along with its own trophy, the players on the winning team also receive a $500,000 bonus.
Earlier this week, J.R. Smith was a guest on FanDuel TV's Run It Back show. Among the things brought up was the NBA Cup and the winnings that come with it. When asked what he would do with the money if he won, Smith did not shy away from sharing his true feelings.
"Who wouldn't want an extra an extra 500," Smith said. "If it's an extra 500 I'm blowing it. Wasn't even calculated."
LeBron and the Lakers were crowned the first winners of the in-season tournament, and a new champion is set to be crowned. On Tuesday night, the Milwaukee Bucks and OKC Thunder will face off in Las Vegas in the finals of the 2024 NBA Cup.
