LeBron James injury update: Why did Lakers superstar exit key matchup vs Boston?
LeBron James left the Lakers' game against the Boston Celtics early in the fourth quarter on Saturday. He was seen grimacing in pain while holding his leg and was attended to by the medical team on the sidelines. With 6:44 remaining in the period, he then headed to the locker room.
It was later announced that LeBron James won't return to the game as he was dealing with a left groin strain. As per Lakers insider Dave McMenamin, there is a chance that the four-time NBA champion is forced to miss weeks with his latest injury setback.
"It is too early to project an accurate timetable for how long LeBron James could miss because of his left groin injury, sources told ESPN," McMenamin tweeted. "However one source said the initial thought is that it will sideline James for a matter of weeks, not a matter of days."
Coach JJ Redick spoke about LeBron's injury after the Lakers suffered a 111-101 loss against the Celtics. The Lakers coach affirmed that he is concerned about injury to his superstar but didn't have any further updates on him.
Meanwhile, the veteran forward played 34:30 minutes against the Celtics and finished with 22 points, 14 rebounds, nine assists and one turnover. He shot 11 of 23 from the floor, including 0 of 6 from beyond the arc.
Fans react to LeBron James' injury
Social media was abuzz as soon as LeBron James exited the game against the Boston Celtics with a groin injury. Lakers fans dropped candid reactions and made their feelings abundantly clear.
"This will help the lakers. Luka will trust Reaves and Rui more while Bron gets rested and healthy. Not bad," a fan commented.
"That trade put both teams in the blender with injuries," a user wrote.
"Horrible news. We might be cooked," wrote another user.
"Not outrageous. It’s soft tissue. AD tried to come back too quickly and restrained his groin," wrote a fan.
Further updates on LeBron's injury are expected after he undergoes additional medical examinations. Lakers fans are hopeful that it is only a minor setback and that the superstar will return sooner rather than later.
