LeBron James responds to trade deadline rumors involving Kyrie Irving: "It's a 'duh' question when you're talking about a player like that"
LA Lakers superstar LeBron James recently made an interesting comment regarding a Lakers rumor ahead of the trade deadline. With a heavy emphasis being placed on the potential arrival of Kyrie Irving, James addressed the situation at hand.
The Lakers have been linked to several teams ahead of the trade deadline. Although they made their first move by trading for Rui Hachimura earlier in January, it is well understood that the team are still in the process of making trades happen.
In this regard, a huge announcement practically rocked the league when Brooklyn Nets superstar Kyrie Irving made it clear that he wished to be traded ahead of the deadline.
The Lakers were heavily linked with Kyrie Irving in the offseason as well. By virtue of this, the team are still viewed as potential suitors for the superstar guard.
While the Lakers are also exploring trade opportunities with teams such as the Charlotte Hornets and the San Antonio Spurs, Irving being available has garnered a lot of interest. These rumors, in particular, require addressing.
Following the Lakers' 131-126 loss against the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday night, Lakers superstar LeBron James addressed some of these rumors. Speaking to the media about the championship potential with Irving on the roster, he said:
"Told you all a couple of weeks ago, I don't speak for the front office. My mindset is that whatever lineup or whatever group that we have is to make sure we prepare ourselves the best way we can and go out and win."
He added to this sentiment by saying:
"Obviously thats - in the words you used - it's a 'duh' question when you're talking about a player like that."
LeBron James appeared rather disappointed with the loss. Following his comments on the trade rumors, James spoke about the state of the Lakers' affairs in the game. He highlighted that with only 28 games left in the season, the team were still making the same mistakes they made early on.
LeBron James' comments may be an indication of his overall dissatisfaction. However, they could also be a method of pressuring the front office to make a move.
With several potential plays at work, the Purple and Gold will heavily consider all outlooks. However, the notion of pursuing Irving appears to be what the majority are hoping for.
LeBron James indicates that the LA Lakers should pursue Kyrie Irving
LeBron James' comments after the game against the New Orleans Pelicans were evidently in favor of pursuing Kyrie Irving. However, the notion of pursuing a trade for Irving is riddled with pros and cons.
Any trade package for Irving will involve Russell Westbrook and picks. However, the LA Lakers receive one of the most gifted offensive minds in the game.
Purely on the basis of performance, Irving would be a massive upgrade on Westbrook. As a top-tier point guard, Irving offers a lot on the offensive end of the floor.
Although Westbrook's work as a playmaker has been valuable, he hasn't produced on the same level. Meanwhile, Irving has been consistent and effective on the scoring front.
Unfortunately, Irving also brings a lot of off-court drama with him. With repetitive personal issues that hamper the flow and function within a team, the Lakers will be wary of being hasty while making a trade.
