Savannah James thanks Cleveland Cavaliers for drafting LeBron James

In 2003, LeBron James was drafted first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers when he was 18. It was the closest NBA team to his hometown of Akron, Ohio, which is also Savannah James' hometown.

During the season finale episode of her "Everybody's Crazy" podcast, Savannah James thanked the Cavaliers for drafting LeBron as it allowed the couple to stay closeby and continue their relationship.

"Obviously, LeBron got drafted to Cleveland when we was younger, and I’m from Akron — I’m from 30 minutes down the road — but I don’t know," she said. "If I had to ask him if he was sittin’ here … I think that he would say the same in, like, ‘I don’t know what would have happened.’ So, thanks, Cleveland Cavaliers."

Savannah also shared that it was uncertain if they would've stayed together had the four-time NBA champion been drafted by a different team.

"We’ve talked about this a lot," Savannah added. "So, thanks, guys [Cavs]. But we’ll never know."

LeBron James stayed with the Cavaliers for seven seasons before heading to the Miami Heat in 2010, where he won his first two NBA championships with back-to-back wins in 2012 and 2013. The NBA's all-time leading scorer then returned to the Cavaliers in 2014, leading them to four straight finals appearances and one championship in 2016.

LeBron then headed to the LA Lakers in 2018 and led them to a championship in the 2020 bubble season. He will head into his 21st season in October, which is bound to be a historic one. LBJ will share the court with his son, Bronny James, in a first-of-its-kind instance in NBA history after the Lakers picked Bronny 55th overall in the 2024 NBA draft.
