Lonzo Ball Shoes Tonight: Chicago Bulls star point guard rocks 'Kobe 5 Bruce Lee Alternate' kicks in comeback game

The basketball world tuned in to Wednesday's game between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Chicago Bulls, as it marked the long-awaited return of Lonzo Ball after a two-year absence. Knee problems had sidelined the Bulls' guard for multiple seasons, but he made his comeback in this preseason matchup.

Lonzo Ball, back on the court after two years, impressed with 10 points in 15 minutes, shooting 4 of 6 from the field, including two 3-pointers.

In his return, Ball sported the Bruce Lee Alternate Kobe 5 sneakers, according to journalist Nick DePaula. The shoes feature mostly black and white with a touch of red outlining the Nike swoosh.

Ball last played in the NBA on Jan. 14, 2022, and made his first appearance in 1,007 days as the Bulls secured a 125-123 win over the Timberwolves in the preseason game at the United Center.

Lonzo Ball talks about his return

Lonzo Ball’s comeback was remarkable after enduring career-threatening injuries. He initially tore his meniscus, causing him to miss part of the 2021-22 season, and later underwent an arthroscopic debridement to clear debris from the previous procedure. In March 2023, Ball had a groundbreaking third surgery — a cartilage transplant to replace his meniscus.

After playing his first game since Jan. 14, 2022, Ball spoke to the media, expressing both excitement and relief at finally being back on the court after such a long time on the sidelines.

"Felt a lot better playing than watching. I’ll say that much," Ball said. "I can’t even really put into words how I felt out there. I was just blessed [and] happy to be out there, man. All the support around me was great all night. Man, it was definitely a moment I’ll never forget."

In addition to recovering from his injury, the Bulls guard also missed the team’s earlier preseason games due to COVID-19.

The Chicago Bulls have one preseason game remaining before their regular season opener on Oct. 23 against the New Orleans Pelicans. Ball is expected to play again in the final preseason matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday.

For his comeback season, Ball is anticipated to come off the bench. Over the offseason, the Bulls acquired young guard Josh Giddey from the OKC Thunder in exchange for Alex Caruso.
