Luka Doncic buzzer beaters: Recounting all the times the Dallas Mavericks star beat the clock in style
Luka Doncic is proving his clutch gene in the NBA with ease. The Dallas Mavericks superstar hit his fourth career buzzer-beater, including the playoffs, during his team's 126-121 OT win over the New York Knicks on Tuesday.
The Mavericks were down nine points with almost 34 seconds left in regulation time and needed a miracle to avoid a loss. Doncic gave them one. He scored and assisted eight points during that stretch. The Slovenian was fouled and had to shoot two free throws with the Mavs down three points with four minutes left on the shot clock.
Doncic had to deliberately miss his last free throw attempt to secure a chance to tie the game and send it to overtime. The play went as planned. The ball eventually got tapped into Doncic's hands, who hit an unreal shot while losing his balance at the buzzer.
Here's a clip of that possession:
Luka Doncic finished with 53 points in regulation time. He scored seven points in overtime to script the successful comeback win for the Mavericks. He became the first player in NBA history to register a 60-point, 20-rebound, and 10-assists triple-double.
Looking back at Luka Doncic's three previous buzzer beaters
Luka Doncic is made for the big moments. It wasn't the first time he displayed his magic when he hit the buzzer-beater against the New York Knicks. The Slovenian has registered three buzzer-beaters previously. Doncic's first career buzzer-beater came against the Portland Trail Blazers during his rookie year.
The Mavericks were down three points with 0.6 seconds left on the clock. The in-bounder found Doncic in the corner, who jacked up a three-pointer to tie the game at 107-107 and send it to overtime. Doncic finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds in that game, but the Mavericks failed to prevail in OT, losing the tie 121-118.
Here's a clip of that buzzer-beater:
Luka Doncic's second career buzzer-beater came against the Los Angeles Clippers in his first playoff series in his sophomore year in 2019. The Dallas Mavericks were down 2-1 in that series, which could've easily been 3-1 by the end of Game 4 if not for Doncic's game-winner in OT.
The Mavs trailed by a point with 3.7 seconds left on the shot clock with the ball in Doncic's hands. He hit a stepback three-pointer over Reggie Jackson to seal the win for his team and tie the series.
Here's a clip of that shot:
Doncic's third buzzer-beater came against the Boston Celtics last season. The Mavericks and Celtics were tied 104-104 for the final possession of the game with Dallas. Doncic brought the ball up the court, dragged a couple of defenders, and still hit a contested three-point shot over Marcus Smart and Josh Richardson to seal the win.
