Luka Doncic cuts an exhausted figure after a miraculous 60-point triple-double: “I’m tired as hell; I need a recovery beer"
The NBA has just witnessed a performance by Luka Doncic that no one has ever seen before. “Luka Legend” torched the New York Knicks for a franchise-best 60 points to go with a career-high 21 rebounds and 10 assists.
The visibly exhausted Slovenian had this to say about the game:
“I’m tired as hell. I need a recovery beer.”
Luka Doncic practically willed the Dallas Mavericks to the win. Dallas was trailing 112-103 with 33.9 seconds left in the game when Doncic’s magic really showed. He made all the right plays to rally his team from a certain defeat.
Doncic purposely missed a free throw with 4.2 seconds left on the clock, grabbed the rebound and made the game-tying shot. The score was 115 all with just a second left in the game after the point guard’s heroics.
The three-time NBA All-Star did not just score the points. He directed everything the Mavericks ran throughout the game. Dallas, after trailing for most of the match, never went behind in extra time. The Mavericks never relinquished the lead after Doncic’s free throws made it 118-116.
Per ESPN Stats Info, no NBA team has won a game after trailing by at least nine points with 35 seconds or lower. Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks just did what was previously deemed impossible.
James Harden accomplished the last 60-point triple-double back on January 30, 2018 while playing for the Houston Rockets. “The Beard” ended that night with 60 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. Harden’s incredible feat helped the Rockets win the game against the Orlando Magic.
Doncic’s night, though, was just mind-boggling, considering his 20-rebound effort while also hitting 67.7% of his shots.
Before tonight, only two other players had scored at least 50 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists. Wilt Chamberlain did it in 1963 and 1968 while Elgin Baylor accomplished it in 1961.
NBA players and fans react to Luka Doncic’s record-setting night
Social media went berserk while Luka Doncic was weaving his magic. His captivating display brought the Mavericks from inevitable defeat in front of their home fans.
Kevin Durant’s reaction probably captured what everyone was thinking while watching “Luka Legend” spin an almost improbable game:
“That was a MyCareer type performance from Luka tonight. Some video game s**t”
Dallas Mavericks team owner Mark Cuban chimed in:
“We are watching greatness @luka7doncic I've never seen anything like that ever”
The Mavericks just unveiled a statue of the legendary Dirk Nowitzki a few days ago. Cuban might have to build another one, according to Kevin Garnett:
“It’ll be another statue in Dallas… Luka is like that!”
Luka Doncic is only 23 years old. KG's suggestion to build a statue for him may have to happen far into the future. Mavericks fans, however, will fortunately enjoy watching their franchise player carry the franchise.
