Luka Doncic had a crisp one-word reaction to LeBron James' stellar 50,000 NBA career points milestone on Tuesday. The mercurial guard took to his Instagram stories to share the Lakers' post congratulating James for his achievement.
His caption summed up his thoughts:
"Insane"
James came into the contest just one point shy of reaching the landmark and he drilled a three-pointer to hit the 50k number. He ended his evening with 34 points, while Doncic notched up a double-double with 30 points and 15 assists to help the Lakers win 136-115 over the New Orleans Pelicans.
As for the achievement, it's safe to say that Doncic was in awe of his 40-year-old teammate continuing strong and showing no signs of slowing down.
Luka Doncic believed LeBron James could reach 70k points
Earlier, Luka Doncic believed that LeBron James could hit an unbelievable 70,000 points if he were to play for the next few years. The 4x NBA champion is in the middle of another solid season averaging 24.8 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 8.6 assists while shooting 51.8% from the field and 39.1% from the deep. His two-way play along with the perfect fit in Doncic has seen LA surge.
Speaking to the reporters after the game, Doncic said:
"Watching him do this stuff at this age is unbelievable. 50K points, I can't even explain that. He might get to 70K, you never know."
Whether James can get to 70k remains to be seen, but his current form bodes well for the Lakers as they look to lock up the second-seed position in a stacked Western Conference. They improved to 39-21 after their seventh straight win. Up next, Doncic and the Lakers gear up to face the in-form New York Knicks at home on Thursday (Mar. 6).
