Luka Doncic Injury Update: Jason Kidd drops massive update on superstar point guard amid Mavericks' injury woes

Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd shared a significant update on Luka Doncic amid the team’s ongoing injury struggles on Wednesday. Speaking ahead of the Mavericks' matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Kidd expressed optimism about Doncic’s rehabilitation, confirming that the Slovenian superstar is making steady progress and trending in the right direction.

Kidd further praised the five-time All-Star’s dedication, highlighting that Doncic is doing everything possible to expedite his return to the court.

“Looks great. I think he’s trending in the right direction, he’s doing everything he’s supposed to do," Kidd said. "He’s been out long enough and that this is probably the longest he’s ever been out, so I think it’s safe to say he’d like to be back."

While Kidd did not provide a specific timeline for Luka Doncic’s return, his update offered an encouraging outlook. The Mavericks have been plagued by injuries recently and the team would greatly benefit from having their superstar point guard back on the court sooner rather than later.

Against the Timberwolves, Dallas faced an uphill battle with seven players sidelined, including Doncic. Dereck Lively II, Dante Exum, Naji Marshall, Dwight Powell, Jaden Hardy and Klay Thompson also missed the game, further depleting the Mavericks’ roster.

Luka Doncic was having a tremendous season before injury

Luka Doncic sustained a left calf strain during the Dallas Mavericks’ Christmas Day game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, sidelining the star guard as he works tirelessly to make his return to the court.

Prior to his injury, Doncic was having an exceptional season, steadily climbing the MVP rankings. He was averaging 28.1 points on 46.4% shooting from the field, including 35.4% from beyond the arc. Additionally, Doncic contributed 8.3 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 2.0 steals per game, showcasing his all-around impact.

Having missed several games due to the setback, the Mavericks guard is now ineligible for contention in any regular-season NBA awards, including MVP and All-NBA honors.
