Luka Doncic and Lakers distracted by Timberwolves fans with official whistle noises in Game 3 loss

Lakers superstar Luka Doncic was left confused on a Timberwolves transition opportunity after hearing whistle noises, assuming it came from the officials. Doncic stopped midway from contesting the layup, and the Timberwolves scored two easy points.

However, the perplexing fourth-quarter play was caused by a fan who had a whistle in the stands. Even Lakers coach JJ Redick complained to the officials about the issue. The play announcer made an announcement, requesting the fan to stop whistling.

That possession was costly for LA, especially with the game being closely contested throughout the fourth quarter. According to Lakers players, they heard the whistle at least four times, leading to a mix-up. It wasn't the ideal scenario, but that was only partly responsible for the Lakers losing 116-104. LA had 19 turnovers, leading to 28 points for the Timberwolves.

The Lakers also had several miscues on offense in the clutch, while Minnesota, led by Anthony Edwards, surgically carved open the Lakers' defense. The Lakers also didn't get enough from Luka Doncic, who entered this game dealing with a stomach bug.

Coach JJ Redick revealed that Doncic vomited throughout Friday afternoon, leading to his woeful night. Doncic had 17 points, seven rebounds and eight assists on 6 of 16 shots, including 2 of 8 from 3.

The silver lining for the Lakers in this game was LeBron James finding his rhythm after an underwhelming display offensively in Games 1 and 2. James had 38 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks on 61.9% shooting, including 5 of 9 from 3.
