Luka Doncic says Dereck Lively lost $20,000 more than median American household income in latest trickshot bet
Luka Doncic and Dereck Lively made a bet during the Dallas Mavericks' 2024 Fan Jam event at American Airlines Center on Sunday. The 2024 NBA Finals runners-up presented their players to the fans ahead of their preseason opener against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Doncic made the rounds on social media with an impressive trick shot, hitting a one-armed shot from one basket to the other, beating Lively. The second-year center, in disbelief, threw a towel at Doncic as he left the court.
One fan on X asked how much Lively had lost after betting against Doncic, and the star himself responded, saying that his teammate lost $100K.
This is $20,000 more than the median household income in the United States, which was $80,610 in 2023, per Statista. It's wild to see people betting so much on one shot, but things are different in the NBA.
Doncic and Kyrie Irving were the Jam Fam coaches this season, with the former ultimately getting the victory.
Following a terrific 2023-24 season where they beat higher seeds like the LA Clippers, OKC Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves, the Mavericks lost the big series against the Boston Celtics in June.
Luka Doncic congratulated Caitlin Clark for winning Rookie of the Year award
Luka Doncic took some time to congratulate Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark after she bagged the 2024 Rookie of the Year award. Clark won the prize after receiving 66 of 67 first-place votes.
The Slovenian appeared in a video shared by the Dallas Mavericks on Friday to celebrate Clark.
"Caitlin, congratulations on an amazing season. Rookie of the Year is a big honor. You deserve it," said Doncic.
Doncic had also won the Rookie of the Year award in 2019. He's now aiming for more important trophies, especially the NBA championship. Luka Doncic has been favored to win the regular-season MVP more than once during his career, but he's been unable to bag it so far.
