"Luka is special; Kyrie is special" - Micah Parsons equates Mavericks to Cowboys, predicting Dallas' shot at 2025 NBA championship
The Dallas Mavericks have reloaded in a big way after their NBA Finals appearance, looking to capitalize while Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic are together in Dallas.
Dallas' active offseason caught the attention of Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons, who offered his thoughts on the Mavericks' chances to win the 2024-25 NBA championship.
"I think they're already close," he said. "They got a great group of guys. They added a couple pieces this offseason. It's going to be a very interesting team, and I think they can actually do it.
"[Luka Doncic] is special. [Kyrie Irving] is special. Something like [the Cowboys], it was a couple games down the strecth and make their run. It's a game of runs."
Micah Parsons went on to compare the Mavericks' run to what the Cowboys are looking to replicate this season in the NFL.
"Same with us, we've just got to go out there and make our run."
The Mavericks traded for Klay Thompson, giving Doncic and Irving a third star and Quentin Grimes, adding depth to their backcourt. Dallas also signed Spencer Dinwiddie.
Dallas have the sixth-best odds in the NBA at (+1000) and the fourth-best in the Western Conference.
ESPN analyst doubts Dallas Mavericks' 2024-25 title odds
While Micah Parsons thinks highly of the Dallas Mavericks' title odds this season, some have their doubts. Among them' is Kendrick Perkins, who offered his thoughts on Dallas' title odds.
On a segment of ESPN's NBA Today, Perkins was tasked with picking a team he feels is at the most risk of a collapse in 2024-25.
"I'm going to go with Dallas," Perkins said. "Is Klay Thompson really going to turn back the hands of time? Is he going to be that guy that's going to consistently knock down shots?
"And [Luka Doncic], we saw last season when he got to the NBA Finals, some could argue he somewhat ran out of gas."
Perkins argued that Luka Doncic is someone who will always post impressive stats, but the team around him is one other teams don't fear. He was alsounimpressed with the addition of Klay Thompson as he enters his 14th season in the NBA.
