Maddy Siegrist stats for Villanova: How her unique abilities have helped her create records

Maddy Siegrist of the Villanova Wildcats has set records this season. Siegrist became Villanova basketball's all-time leading scorer for men and women. She also set scoring records for the Big East Conference and the Big 5.

The 6-foot-1 forward broke the school's single-game scoring record, as well as the Big East single-game scoring record, with her 50-point performance against Seton Hall earlier this month. She also became the Big East's all-time leading scorer during the same game.

In Villanova's 73-57 win over St. John's two weeks ago, Siegrist also broke the City 6 women's basketball all-time scoring record. She told the Philadelphia Inquirer after the game that she was happy with the support she got from fans and family during her record-breaking game.

"It means everything," Siegrist said. "My family has been so supportive. That's for sure something I’ll look back on the most and cherish forever."

Maddy Siegrist is averaging 28.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.2 blocks per game this season. She's shooting 51.4% from the field, 38.2% from beyond the arc and 83.7% from the free throw line.

Siegrist is possibly on her way to winning the National Player of the Year for the 26-5 (17-3 conference) Villanova Wildcats. She has been improving since her freshman year and was named Big East Player of the Year last season.

There are a few reasons why Maddy Siegrist has been scoring the way she has this season. Siegrist's usage rate was just in the top 20 last year, but is currently in the top 10 this campaign, per Swish Appeal.

Siegrist is a versatile scorer who likes to post up, but can also score off the dribble. She can even make shots from mid-range and beyond the arc. She added a fadeaway jumper to her arsenal and became even harder to guard.

The 22-year-old forward has also been very efficient this season, shooting 51.4% percent from the field. As for her advanced statistics, she's averaging almost 1.17 points per possession and shooting 56.9% effective field goal percentage. She's also among the top players in terms of efficiency rating and total win shares.

Siegrist is expected to enter the 2023 WNBA draft following her senior year. She's among the top prospects currently projected to get drafted by the Washington Mystics, per ESPN.
