Magic Johnson hails the Obamas for their insightful DNC address
Magic Johnson was lavish in his praise of former POTUS Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama's speech at the DNC. As per BBC, her stirring speech with the theme of hope making a comeback electrified the crowd. The Obamas also endorsed Presidential candidate Kamala Harris to lead the country — all of which had Johnson's seal of approval.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the LA Lakers legend called the Obamas speech as the best in history.
"Former President Barack and First Lady Michelle Obama gave the best political speeches in history of our country. The powerful couple talked about working class families, family values, and moving the country forward - together. They were powerful, intelligent, compassionate, and sealed with integrity."
Obama also had a shout-out for Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, adding he was the kind of person who needed to be in politics. The DNC has been a major headliner across the country. Earlier, it was Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr who enjoyed a rousing reception from a packed United Center in Chicago.
Magic Johnson had made his reservations about Donald Trump clear back in 2017
Magic Johnson had made his reservations about former President Donald Trump very clear in 2017. The 12x NBA All-Star was unabashed in his criticism of Trump's executive order on immigration. He made his opposition public saying the former POTUS couldn't just "be a dictator". Per TMZ, he said:
"It's wrong to discriminate against people. We have a lot of great Muslim brothers and sisters who are here and doing a wonderful job of being great Americans."
In the aftermath, Johnson also stopped staying at Trump SoHo — a move that was followed by other NBA players as well, including LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The 5x NBA champion has been a firm supporter of Joe Biden and regularly used X as a platform to show his support. Earlier this month, he had a tweet thanking Biden.
"I want to thank President Biden for everything he has done for our country! The love he has for this nation mirrors the love that I and the American people have for him."
According to Newsweek, the likes of James and Steph Curry had been actively campaigning for the 81-year-old Biden before he stepped down.
