Magic Johnson shouts out Dennis Rodman's daughter Trinity Rodman to win NWSL MVP

Magic Johnson has rallied support for Trinity Rodman, the daughter of NBA legend Dennis Rodman, to win the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) MVP award. The Washington Spirit, partly owned by Johnson, are hoping for her victory after another superb season with the team. Across 15 games for the Spirit, Rodman has scored five goals and been one of the team’s top threats in scoring and passing.

The LA Lakers legend went on X (formerly Twitter) to give Rodman’s MVP contention a boost:

“Spirit fans, our superstar Trinity Rodman has been playing incredible all season! Let’s do our part and show our support by voting for her to be the next NWSL MVP—she deserves it!”

Dennis Rodman’s daughter has had an impressive NSWL career. She was 18 when the Washington Spirit selected her with the No. 2 pick in the 2021 college draft. The emerging soccer star had seven goals in her debut season and won the NWSL Rookie of the Year award.

Washington is second in the standings this season with 56 points, following an 18-win, two-loss and six-draw campaign. If Rodman adds the MVP trophy to her resume, she will be the first Spirit since Crystal Dunn in 2025 to win the award.

Magic Johnson joined the Washington Spirit in September 2024

Magic Johnson holds many interests across sports. He is a part-time owner of the LA Sparks (WNBA), the newly crowned MLB champions LA Dodgers, the Washington Commanders (NFL) and the LA FC in Major League Soccer. In September this year, he joined the ownership group of the Washington Spirit.

Spirit majority owner Michele Kang released a statement to announce Johnson as part of the franchise:

“It is a great honor to welcome Earvin to the Washington Spirit today. From the basketball court to the boardroom, Earvin knows how to win, and we are delighted to count on his expertise as part of our fantastic investor group.
“His commitment not only reflects the strength of our club, players, fans and brand, but also sends a powerful message about the growth and impact of women’s sports globally. Together, we look forward to taking the Washington Spirit to new heights and inspiring the next generation of young women and girls worldwide.”

Magic Johnson recently celebrated his 15th career championship across his roles as a player, executive and part-owner after the Dodgers’ 4-1 World Series victory over the New York Yankees — his second title with the MLB team.
