"Main character syndrome"- NBA fans troll Draymond Green for claiming Jalen Brunson’s pay cut was inspired by him

Draymond Green has once again ruffled some feathers with a bold claim related to Jalen Brunson's latest contract with New York Knicks. Basketball fans called out the Golden State Warriors forward after he implied Brunson's decision to take a pay cut was inspired by him.

Brunson recently signed a $156.5 million contract extension with the Knicks, leaving a potential $113 million on the table. The former Villanova guard would have been eligible for a $269 million deal if he waited to negotiate the deal next year.

Speaking on Club 520 podcast, Green said that Brunson copied him by taking less money in order to help the organization with some payroll relief.

"He did a Draymond Green. I signed that [four-year contract] for [$100 million]. If I waited, I could’ve gotten four for [$180 million], but I needed to lock my money in. I’d rather lock that [$100 million] in to know that I have that [$100 million]...I just wasn’t willing to take that risk," Green said.

NBA fans took to social media to troll Draymond Green for his self-centered opinion on the contract. Green is known for his direct, candid and brutally honest views, but may be a bit off the mark on this subject.

"Main character syndrome," said one fan.
"Draymond tryna make everything about him," said another.
"He would’ve never gotten 4 years and $180 million. Hes a triple single player," pointed out another fan.
"I doubt anybody is following draymond in any way on or off the court," commented another fan.

Brunson has been one of the most improved players in the league over the last few years and has consistently put up big numbers. He has developed into a fan favorite in the Big Apple and a massive contract extension seemed inevitable for the guard that led the Knicks to back-to-back Eastern Conference semifinals.

Since joining the Knicks, the point guard averaged 26.5 points, 6.5 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game.

Despite the New York Knicks' impressive run-up to the playoffs and first-round win over the Philadelphia 76ers, Draymond Green was never sold on the team.

In May, he questioned whether Brunson could lead the Knicks all the way to the NBA finals.

"I am honest, and I'm not delusional, and a ball-dominant Jalen Brunson ain't going to get you to the promised land," Green said on his podcast.

Last month, Green left Brunson out of his top-five all-time second-round picks list, opting to go with himself, Nikola Jokic, Dennis Rodman, Manu Ginobili and Marc Gasol instead.

Green claimed on his podcast that he does not "hate" the Knicks, but the four-time NBA champion continues to find new and creative way to take digs at Brunson and his teammates.
