"Making decisions based off podcasts" - Brian Scalabrine hammers Lakers for throwing Dan Hurley in head coach mix
The LA Lakers are well-known for demanding a championship out of their teams every season. The upcoming season isn't different, but first, they must acquire a new coach. A few candidates are being looked at, and UConn's Dan Hurley is rumored to be the frontrunner.
Transitioning into the NBA will be a huge move for Hurley who has never coached as a professional coach. However, former Boston Celtics player Brian Scalabrine is skeptical of the opportunity presented to Hurley.
On Friday, Scalabrine appeared on the 'Dan Patrick Show' to share his thoughts on Hurley's potential move to the Lakers.
"It doesn't seem like he would want that job, if you're Dan Hurley can't you get any job in the world? The Laker job doesn't seem like a great job," Scalabrine said. "If Dan Hurley wanted to throw his hat in the ring why didn't he do it earlier? Why are you waiting 'til now when they're on the last hour about to hire JJ Redick?"
Scalabrine and host Dan Patrick criticized the Lakers for waiting for Hurley to get on JJ Redick's podcast to consider him for the job. They feel the team should have made that decision based on how he's been coaching at UConn.
"If Danny Hurley was your guy, why was he not your guy four months ago, three months ago?" Scalabrine added. "So billion-dollar organizations are making their decisions based off podcasts?"
Hurley has coached the University of Connecticut's men's basketball team since 2018. During his tenure, the Huskies won several championships. Hurley has also earned several Coach of the Year awards.

Brian Scalabrine says he'd avoid the Lakers and remain at UConn if he were Dan Hurley
Brian Scalabrine flamed the LA Lakers for rushing to include Dan Hurley as their coach. However, he also took the time to praise the UConn head coach. Scalabrine said he would pick Hurley over JJ Redick and twenty other coaches in the NBA.
However, Scalabrine opined that if Hurley wanted to coach in the NBA, he could remain at UConn for another go-around.
Scalabrine strongly believes in Hurley's coaching acumen. However, he also believes that if he took the LA job, he would limit himself. Scalabrine feels Hurley could wait longer for other opportunities to present themselves.
