"Mark Cuban is such a flake": Mavericks owner's 180 on Donald Trump incites political backlash
Dallas Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban has been vocal lately about his disdain for US Presidential candidate Donald Trump. Cuban has criticized Trump on social media and during interviews leading into the 2024 US presidential election. During a recent interview with political content creator Brian Tyler Cohen, Cuban opened up on Trump.
The billionaire explained that Trump's leadership style is the opposite of what one should seek in a president.
"I've known Trump for 25 years... He is the most unethical and dishonest person I've ever done business with or worked with... you want somebody who has character and empathy, someone that has a willingness to learn and understand.
"And you want somebody that is ethical when it comes to making difficult decisions. ... This is one of the few human beings on the planet that gets dumber in front of our faces every single day."
Last decade, Cuban took a very different stance on Trump. In a 2016 interview, he said he would vote for the business tycoon if Hillary Clinton chose Elizabeth Warren as her running mate.
The NBA community was quick to weigh in on the situation this week:
"Mark Cuban is such a flake" - One wrote
"What did he do to him to hurt his feelings so badly?" - Another wrote
"Yeah bro obviously a billionaire wasn't going to vote for a Warren ticket in '16. Or prob ever, really. So?" - One added
Others defended Cuban:
"The entire premise of his point was that he learns over time and makes different decisions with new information." - One wrote
"It’s almost as if people can reassess their opinion after new information has come out" - Another added
"This makes him an honest person who doesnt suck off one side just because he likes the other more. He has no bias and wants the best for the average American. Use your common sense sometimes" - One suggested
Mark Cuban reveals the conversation that changed his opinion about Donald Trump
While Mark Cuban once considered voting for Donald Trump, his stance changed after he learned more about his fellow billionaire businessman.
As he explained during an appearance on The Daily Show earlier this year, he realized that he and Trump share incredibly different social and political views.
Cuban walked away upset after he and the controversial former president met for a relaxed conversation.
“He goes, ‘Donald Trump and Mark Cuban don’t go to people’s houses and have dinner. Are you kidding me?’ That’s who he is. When we talked about … [his political] ground game: ‘I got all these religious people who are gonna do the work for me.’”
Considering that Mark Cuban has spent ample time sparring with Trump supporters recently, it's clear he has no plans to support Trump's reelection campaign.
