Mavericks season may be over as Kyrie Irving seen with walking boot after loss to Grizzlies

The Dallas Mavericks' season may be in jeopardy, as superstar Kyrie Irving was recently spotted at a game wearing a walking boot. ESPN's Tim MacMahon shed more light on the matter while reporting Irving's compromised health situation.

The Mavericks were viewed as title contenders at the start of the season. Led by superstar Luka Doncic, Dallas featured some extremely talented players Dorian Finney-Smith, Christian Wood and Tim Hardaway Jr.

While the Mavericks achieved success early in the season, they have cooled off since then. With Doncic's availability reduced due to injury, the Mavs have had inconsistent output from the rest of the team.

Dallas attempted to address this issue ahead of the trade deadline by signing former Brooklyn Nets superstar Kyrie Irving. Although signing Irving was a highly controversial move considering the amount of baggage he brings with him, the Mavs were viewed favorably once more.

Irving's arrival brought short-term success for Dallas. However, the pairing of Doncic and Irving hasn't panned out as well as the Mavs would have hoped. Given the amount of adjustment the two have to make, the superstars haven't clicked regularly. Every duo needs time to settle in. Unfortunately, Dallas was struck with yet another blow, as Doncic was sidelined with a thigh injury.

Although Irving has also been on-and-off the floor with ankle injuries, he has been more available than Doncic. However, that may be subject to some change, as Irving was spotted wearing a walking boot after the loss against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Considering Dallas' position in the West and the fact that Doncic remains sidelined, the Mavericks could see their season fall apart. Tim MacMahon, though, shared some important details regarding the situation.

As per the analyst, Irving is using the boot as a precautionary measure and that it was mainly for a re-aggravated foot injury rather than the ankle one. Irving also mentioned that he hopes to play against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday (Mar. 22). That could be viewed as a positive sign regarding his availability.

Dallas will need Luka Doncic to join Kyrie Irving soon

The Dallas Mavericks may not be in a catastrophic situation just yet. With Kyrie Irving expected to be back soon, the Mavs might make the playoffs with a few notches in the win column. However, Luka Doncic's availability is a greater concern.

The Mavericks have enjoyed most of their success with Doncic on the floor. While having one superstar available could still see them win a few games, Dallas will be more concerned with their performance in the playoffs.

As per recent reports, Doncic's MRI scans showed no signs of damage to his thigh. Considering that it's a strain, Doncic could be cleared to play if the discomfort wears off. Given that Doncic has dealt with this injury throughout the season, Dallas may opt to be careful while ramping up his return, though.
