Mavs minority owner Mark Cuban gives 3-word response on if he would buy Elon Musk's $12.5 billion platform

Mark Cuban, known for being one of the wealthiest figures in the NBA, responded when asked if he would consider purchasing X (formerly Twitter), a platform he has been active on lately.

In an interview with Wired, Mark Cuban, the former governor and now minority owner of the Dallas Mavericks, expressed interest in acquiring the platform, which has seen a sharp decline in value since Elon Musk took over. He noted that if the opportunity arose, he would be open to the idea.

When asked whether he’d buy it "in a perfect world," Mark Cuban, who is worth $7.66 billion, replied:

“Yeah, for sure.”

However, Mark Cuban acknowledged that a purchase isn’t currently possible, explaining that Musk might not sell it.

“I wish I could. There’s no reason for him to sell it,” he said.

Musk's acquisition of Twitter was finalized in October 2022, in a transaction valued at approximately $44 billion. His motivations included concerns about free speech, claiming the platform censored conservative voices and had a left-leaning bias.

Since Musk took control, the company’s value has dropped significantly, with estimates pointing to a 71% decline, largely due to a sharp drop in advertising revenue and operational changes. According to The Guardian, X is valued at around $12.5 billion.

Mark Cuban explains why he hopes Donald Trump won’t win the presidency

In the same Wired interview, Mark Cuban, an outspoken critic of Donald Trump, shared why he doesn’t want the former president to win the 2024 election.

“I hope not. I don’t think this election is about policy at all. I think it’s about trust and comfort, and that’s why the double haters—people who don’t like Trump or Biden—are now going to go for Kamala,” Cuban explained.

He elaborated on why Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz might appeal to voters, saying:

“She and Walz are both somebody that if, you know, you invited them to dinner, it would be a comfortable, fun family dinner, right? You wouldn’t feel threatened. You can’t say that about Donald Trump.”

Cuban also criticized Trump for not believing in climate change.

“The guy doesn’t believe in climate change. Are you 100 percent certain about climate change? No? Well maybe there’s a 1 percent chance. Are you willing to take a 1 percent chance that your kids are fu**ed, your grandkids are f****d?”

The next US presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 5, 2024.
