"Me, KD and Steph had to take like a drug test": Anthony Edwards reveals trio were drug tested after Olympic final
In his first Olympic run, Anthony Edwards carved out a significant role on Team USA as a sparkplug off the bench alongside NBA veterans Kevin Durant and Steph Curry.
The trio helped put Team USA win gold at the Olympics, combining for 47 of the United States' 98 points in the gold medal game versus France. After winning gold, Edwards said that he, Durant and Curry were drug tested following their impressive showing.
"We couldn't even really celebrate for real because me, (Kevin Durant) and (Steph Curry) had to take like a drug test," Edwards said regarding his experience after winning the gold.
Stephen Curry finished with 24 points. Durant registered 15 points, while Edwards finished with eight points in Team USA's win over France in the Olympic men's basketball final.
Playing his first Olympics, Anthony Edwards averaged 12.8 points and 2.8 rebounds, shooting 58 percent from the field and 48 percent from beyond the arc.
The Minnesota Timberwolves superstar was fresh off his best NBA season, posting career highs in points, rebounds and assists per game, with averages of 25.9 ppg, 5.1 apg and 5.4 rpg.
Kevin Durant dubs Anthony Edwards "Baby GOAT" after Olympic run
Anthony Edwards has drawn comparisons with Michael Jordan, arguably the greatest player in NBA history, during his breakout campaign. Kevin Durant offered his take on the Anthony Edwards-Michael Jordan comparisons.
"Man, I call him the baby goat," Durant said at a Fanatics event he attended with Edwards, commenting on his time playing alongside Edwards for Team USA in the Olympics.
Edwards played a crucial role in knocking his idol out of the NBA playoffs last season. He averaged 31.0 points, 6.3 assists and 8.0 rebounds in Minnesota's 4-0 series win over Kevin Durant's Phoenix Suns in arguably the most Jordan-esque showing of Edwards' career.
Durant has given his praise to the NBA's next superstar in Edwards, as Edwards has been vocal of his fandom for Durant throughout his career. When commenting on how it felt to eliminate Durant at the same Fanatics event on Saturday, Edwards said that he felt a little "bad."
