The Miami Heat defeated the Atlanta Hawks 123-114 in overtime on Friday at State Farm Arena in Georgia. Miami won the Eastern Conference's eighth and final playoff berth after a two-game battle in the Play-In Tournament.
Tyler Herro led Miami with 30 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. He shot 10-for-21, including 5-for-10 from the 3-point line. Andrew Wiggins had 20 points, eight rebounds and eight assists on 8-for-17 shooting (2-for-6 on 3-pointers). Bam Adebayo finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and five blocks on 8-for-14 shooting.
Davion Mitchell contributed 16 points and five assists off the bench. He shot 5-for-13 (4-for-9 on triples). Haywood Highsmith had 12 points and 10 rebounds on 5-for-9 shooting (2-for-6 from downtown) off the bench, while Kel'el Ware added 12 points (6-for-6) and eight rebounds.
Trae Young led Atlanta with 29 points, 11 assists and five rebounds. He shot 9-for-22, including 4-for-9 from beyond the arc. Onyeka Okongwu had 28 points and 12 rebounds on 12-for-19 shooting (4-for-8 on triples).
Off the bench, Georges Niang had 20 points, four rebounds and four assists on 8-for-15 shooting (2-for-7 from the 3-point line). Caris LeVert contributed 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists on 6-for-15 shooting (3-for-9 on 3-pointers).
Miami is coming off a 109-90 win against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday. They needed two straight road wins to reach the playoffs. The Heat will face the first-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the playoffs. Their series will start on Sunday at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
On the other hand, Atlanta lost to the seventh-placed Orlando Magic on Tuesday, 120-95. They are now eliminated from postseason contention, finishing the 2024-25 season with a 40-42 record.

After a 9-0 Miami run and a back-and-forth, the Heat had a 106-104 lead with 11.3 seconds remaining. In the following possession, Young's driving layup tied the game with 1.3 seconds on the clock. The game went to overtime as Wiggins missed a turnaround jump shot.
The Heat outscored the Hawks 17-8 in overtime and held on for the win to advance to the playoffs.
