'My family proud of me': Miles Bridges scoffs at internet hate for his domestic abuse allegations
Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges sent a clear message to his haters on X, formerly Twitter. Bridges has been criticized ever since he was accused of domestic violence, but he's not losing sleep over that.
On Sunday, the forward sent a message to his doubters, making it clear what he thought of what the internet thinks of him.
"Don’t care what they say on the internet cause my family proud of me 🤷🏽," Bridges tweeted.
Miles Bridges was arrested for felony domestic violence a day before the 2022 NBA free agency started. Bridges had allegedly assaulted the mother of his two kids, Mychelle Johnson, resulting in a felony count of injuring a child's parent and two felony counts of child abuse.
A year later, he was served with another warrant of arrest involving the same domestic violence case. After authorities found new developments regarding his prior case, he was served.
Miles Bridges pleaded not guilty on all three charges before pleading no contest to the felony count of injuring a child's parent. He was sentenced to three years of probation.
Charlotte Hornets gave Miles Bridges another chance in the NBA
Despite his controversies, the Charlotte Hornets still re-signed the veteran forward to a three-year, $75 million contract in the offseason.
There was also interest in Bridges around the league, with the forward saying both the Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers were keen to sign him.
“Yeah, the Clippers are a great organization,” Bridges said in September per the Charlotte Observer. “They wanted me, the Cavaliers wanted me. But at the same time I was just trying to see what was the best fit for me, and what would make me and my family happy.”
Fans weren't happy about the Hornets giving him another chance, knowing his prior history. But on the court, Bridges has proven to be quite productive. He averaged 21.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists in the 2023-24 season.
And before he missed the entire 2022-23 season, Bridges averaged 20.2 points and 7.0 rebounds in 2021-22, finishing seventh in the Most Improved Player voting.
The Hornets aren't expected to compete in the East this campaign, but keeping Bridges, Ball and Miller on the roster could be the start of something good for this franchise.
