Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter reveal how they found out being cousins
Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady didn't always know that they were cousins. In a conversation with McGrady on his "The VC Show with Vince Carter", the former Toronto Raptors star revealed how he found out.
Carter revealed that the two met at Chapel Hill in 1997 for a few pickup games. After a few games, McGrady told Carter that he would not attend one of the pickup games because of a family reunion.
Later, Carter received a phone call from his grandmother. However, when he picked up the phone, it was McGrady introducing himself as his cousin.
"I’m like, 'The hell is she calling me for?'" Carter said before pretending to answer the phone. "Grandma, you good? What’s going on?" And on the other line, I hear, "What’s up, cuz, what’s up!' And I’m like, ‘Bruh, who is this?' He said, 'This Mac cuz, we family, cuz.' I’m like, ‘What are you talking about, bro? This don’t make sense."
Later that same year, the Toronto Raptors selected T-Mac 9th overall in the NBA draft. A year later, Vince Carter was selected fifth in the 1998 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors. After Carter's draft night trade to Toronto, both cousins played two years with the Raptors before McGrady went to the Orlando Magic.
