NBA fans react to Jared McCain's rookie season coming to premature end: "Down bad ever since TikTok got banned"
Jared McCain has officially been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a torn left meniscus. The Philadelphia 76ers guard had been among the league's top rookies prior to his injury.
Fans reacted to the news with disappointment, lamenting not only McCain’s basketball absence but also the potential loss of TikTok. The app’s future remains uncertain as the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to hear arguments about a possible ban.
One fan linked McCain’s injury news to the ongoing TikTok case.
“Bro’s down bad ever since TikTok got banned in the States 😭,” one fan said.
“What is bro going to do wo tiktok and the league?” another said.
“TikTok banned and now he’s out for season? Bro is in shambles rn,” another added.
The legal challenge to TikTok arises from a law requiring its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to divest ownership by Jan. 19 or face a U.S. ban.
The law has bipartisan support, citing national security and data privacy concerns, with officials warning of potential espionage and manipulation by China.
Other fans expressed sadness over McCain’s rookie campaign ending prematurely.
“Damn! Was almost guaranteed ROTY. Next szn he’ll be right back tho,” one said.
“Dude was gonna be rookie of the year, hate it for him,” another said.
“Man he was ballin this year. 🙏 up to him. He’s gonna come back stronger,” another added.
Before his injury, McCain had been a standout rookie, averaging 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 46.0% overall and 38.3% from beyond the arc.

76ers say Jared McCain's recovery is progressing well
When announcing McCain’s season-ending injury, the Philadelphia 76ers shared encouraging news about his recovery progress.
"Jared McCain was reviewed today by the surgeon who performed surgery on his left knee on Dec. 17. He is progressing well and will be out for the remainder of the 2024-25 season," the team said.
Jared McCain had been a bright spot in an injury-plagued 76ers season, serving as a starter alongside the team’s big three when healthy.
After an abysmal start to the season, the 76ers have rebounded and are one game behind the final play-in spot as of Thursday.
