NBA fans were trolling after Jayson Tatum's merciless dunk while trailing goes viral: "Flexing down 20, classic", "Cuts the lead to 50!"
Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics trailed by as many as 30 points against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night. The Celtics then made a furious second-half comeback before losing by five (117-112). Boston’s comeback included a ferocious one-handed poster dunk by Tatum while the Celtics were trailing 86-64 in the third quarter. The dunk quickly went viral on social media.
However, fans were also quick to notice the score. This led many to troll Tatum for flexing after cutting the Pacers’ lead from 22 down to just 20 at the time. So on that note, here are some of the best fan reactions to Tatum’s viral dunk.
Most fans' reactions to Jayson Tatum’s viral dunk referred to the score of the game in one way or another.
Many fans also trolled big sports pages like SportsCenter and even the NBA for cropping the score out of the video.
Some also made reference to the Chris Paul meme from last season’s Western Conference semifinals. The meme originated after the Phoenix Suns' star point guard hit a three to cut the Suns’ deficit to 42 in Game 7 versus Dallas.
Despite the seemingly unlimited jokes related to Jayson Tatum’s dunk, there were still some fans who appreciated how impressive it was. There were also some who were concerned about former Celtic Aaron Nesmith who ended up being the victim of Tatum’s poster.
However, as usual, there were multiple fans who complained about various aspects of the play. This included claims that Tatum traveled and carried the ball before his dunk.
Finally, one fan even complained that Tatum should have received a technical foul for taunting on the play.
Reactions to Jayson Tatum 's dunk act as proof that you can't please everyone
All-in-all, Tatum’s dunk once again proved that you can’t please everyone. Nonetheless, it still made for a highlight-worthy moment. Tatum also went on to finish with 41 points on 13-for-25 (52.0%) shooting. So there’s not much more he could have done anyway.
Though they lost, he gave his all and had a great game. That, however, will likely be little more than cold comfort.
