NBA Injury Report: Andrew Wiggins questionable, Jordan Poole questionable and more updates on Jimmy Butler and DeAndre Hunter | December 15, 2022
The reigning NBA champs Golden State Warriors could miss Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole in their game tonight versus the Indiana Pacers. Both have been listed as questionable due to right adductor tightness for Wiggins and left ankle soreness for Poole.
Wiggins, who made his first NBA All-Star selection last season, is averaging 19.1 points while hitting career-high efficiency in his shooting. He is making 51.1% of his field goal attempts, including 45.0% from deep.
“Two-Way Wiggs” exploded for a season-high 36 points the other night against the Houston Rockets. He played 34 minutes but injured his groin during the game.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has relied more on Wiggins this season, particularly with the early-season struggles of Klay Thompson. He has helped provide Golden State with much-needed stability on both ends of the court.
The Warriors’ starting small forward has already missed two games this season and could miss his third if his injury lingers. Kerr could go with either Jonathan Kuminga or JaMychal Green to replace Wiggins in the starting lineup.
Meanwhile, Jordan Poole could miss his first game of the NBA season for the Golden State Warriors. He took Klay Thompson's in the starting lineup on Saturday as the veteran shooting guard was dealing with soreness in his Achilles.
JP played 28 minutes versus the Rockets and finished with 21 points, two rebounds and five assists. With Thompson available against the Indiana Pacers, Steve Kerr could allow Poole to rest his sore left ankle.
The Warriors are still waiting for Poole to get back to his form last season as they hope to defend their NBA championship. Except for his assists where he’s averaging a career-high 4.5 per game, most of his numbers have regressed. He is shooting just 43.3% from the field, including 33.7% from long range.
Poole’s free-throw accuracy has considerably dropped this season as well. He led the NBA in that category last season with 92.5%, which is way better than his current mark of 83.3%.
Jimmy Butler: Right knee soreness: Injured since November 16, 2022
NBA All-Star Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat missed his team’s previous seven games before suiting up against the Boston Celtics on Friday. Butler didn’t seem to miss a beat as he played 35 minutes and finished with 25 points, a game-high 15 rebounds and three assists.
With Butler back in the lineup, the Heat took down the Celtics, who still own the best record in the NBA, in overtime. “Jimmy G. Buckets” has played only 14 of Miami’s 23 games this season and could miss another one due to his nagging knee injury.
The Miami Heat have officially listed Jimmy Butler as questionable tonight when the Heat end a four-game road trip in Memphis. Haywood Highsmith or Max Strus could take Butler’s place in the starting lineup if the superstar is sidelined.
DeAndre Hunter: Right hip flexor strain; Injured since November 30, 2022
DeAndre Hunter injured his hip and played only seven minutes against the Orlando Magic last Wednesday. The emerging forward of the Atlanta Hawks had an MRI the following day and was diagnosed with a hip flexor strain. He is expected to miss at least one week.
If Hunter heals accordingly, he will miss the Hawks’ games versus the Denver Nuggets, OKC Thunder and New York Knicks. Jarrett Culver could continue playing in Hunter’s place in the meantime.
