NBA Injury Report: Giannis Antetokounmpo probable, Andrew Wiggins questionable and more updates on Rudy Gobert and Desmond Bane | January 27, 2023

Newly-voted NBA All-Star team captain Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks is probable tonight versus the Indiana Pacers. “The Greek Freak” played in the Bucks’ past two games after sitting out the previous five due to a sore right knee.

Antetokounmpo hasn’t missed practice over the past few games, which is a great sign that he will be available when the Bucks visit Indiana. Over his past two games, the Greek superstar has been averaging 31.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in just 29 minutes.

The Bucks submitted their injury report for Friday's game in Indianapolis earlier this evening.

OUT:
Serge Ibaka, Bobby Portis

Questionable:
MarJon Beauchamp (right patella tendinitis), AJ Green (left ankle soreness)

Probable:
Giannis Antetokounmpo (right knee soreness)

The Bucks are just 6-4 over the past 10 games and are looking to improve on their 31-17 record. They finally have Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton, so they’re raring to play their best as the NBA heads toward the All-Star break.

Giannis Antetokounmpo will be playing in his seventh straight All-Star game and will captain one of the teams for the third time in his career. The two-time NBA MVP is averaging 31.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 5.3 assists, which led to the well-deserved All-Star recognition.

Meanwhile, defending NBA champs Golden State Warriors could miss the services of Andrew Wiggins due to illness versus the Toronto Raptors tonight. “Wiggs” was a late scratch in the Warriors’ thrilling 122-120 win over the Memphis Grizzlies the other night.

Wiggins hasn’t joined Steve Kerr’s practices yet, which means that he could sit out his 16th game of the season. He has been dealing with various injuries throughout the season and the non-Covid related illness is just unfortunate for him.

Andrew Wiggins listed as questionable for the Warriors tomorrow against the Raptors with that non-COVID illness. Andre Iguodala out. Otherwise clean injury report.

Jonathan Kuminga could take Wiggins' spot in the starting lineup.

Rudy Gobert: Groin soreness; Injured since January 23, 2023

Rudy Gobert injured his right groin in the Minnesota Timberwolves' 119-114 loss to the Houston Rockets last Jan. 23. He was designated questionable the other night heading into the Timberwolves’ encounter with the New Orleans Pelicans, but still played 35 minutes and finished with 17 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.

The three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year has the same status for tonight’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Rudy Gobert (groin) questionable for Friday.

Gobert isn’t likely to make this year’s NBA All-Star team, but he has been a big part of the Timberwolves’ season. Without Karl-Anthony Towns due to a calf injury, the French international’s contribution has been badly needed.

“The Stifle Tower” is averaging 13.4 points, 11.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks this season. If he’s not available tonight, Luka Garza and Naz Reid could see more playing time.

Desmond Bane: Right knee soreness; Injured since January 25, 2023

One of the NBA’s most improved players could be out of commission tonight when the Memphis Grizzlies take on the Minnesota Timberwolves. Desmond Bane is dealing with right knee soreness after the other night’s game versus the Golden State Warriors.

Bane has already missed 20 games this season, mostly due to a toe injury. If he sits out tonight, it’ll be the first time he’s unavailable due to a knee problem.

.@memgrizz status report, Jan. 27 at @Timberwolves:

QUESTIONABLE
Desmond Bane - RT Knee Soreness

OUT
Steven Adams - RT Knee PCL Sprain
Danny Green - LT Knee Surgery Recovery
John Konchar - Concussion Protocol
Kenneth Lofton Jr. - NBA G League Two-Way Transfer

The Grizzlies’ starting shooting guard is putting up a strong case for the NBA’s Most Improved Player of the Year honor. He is averaging 21.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game this season, which are all career-high numbers.

Tyus Jones and Ziaire Williams could have bigger roles to play tonight if Bane is unavailable.
