NBA Injury Report: Ja Morant questionable, Luka Doncic probable and more updates on Donovan Mitchell and Robert Williams III | December 12, 2022
All-NBA guard Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies has been listed as questionable for tonight’s game against the Atlanta Hawks. Morant is dealing with right thigh soreness after the Grizzlies' win over the Detroit Pistons last Friday.
Morant struggled badly against the Pistons in 33 minutes. He finished with 15 points despite attempting 20 shots. He was 6-20 from the field and missed all seven of his three-point attempts. “G12” was probably feeling soreness in his thigh at some point during that game.
Ja Morant could be headed towards another NBA All-Star appearance as he is averaging career highs in different statistical categories. He is putting up career-best numbers in scoring (27.7) rebounding (6.6) and three-point shooting (35.5%.)
Morant has already missed four games this season and could miss his fifth if he can’t recover in time for the matchup against the Hawks. Tyus Jones, who has been solid this season, could be inserted into the starting unit if the superstar guard is sidelined.
Meanwhile, Luka Doncic, one of the NBA’s leading MVP candidates, has been upgraded to probable by the Dallas Mavericks tonight versus the OKC Thunder. “Luka Magic” didn’t play in the Mavs’ loss to the Chicago Bulls on Saturday.
The Slovenian basketball star has been dealing with a right quadriceps strain but should be expected for tonight’s encounter against the Thunder. Without Doncic on the floor, the Mavs had no chance of beating the Bulls, who clobbered the Mavericks with a score of 144-115.
Doncic has missed only two games this season and should keep that record intact as Dallas hosts Oklahoma. The NBA’s scoring leader is averaging 32.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 8.8 assists. He is hitting a career-high 50.1% of his field goals.
The Dallas Mavericks are 13-13 after losing their last two games. They badly need to get back on track, starting with the return of “Luka Magic.”
Donovan Mitchell: Right lower leg soreness; Injured since December 6, 2022
After dropping a season-high 43 points in the Cleveland Cavaliers' win over LeBron James and the LA Lakers, Donovan Mitchell hasn’t played again. He is suffering from right lower leg soreness, which has forced him to miss back-to-back games for the Cavs.
The Cavaliers have once again listed “Spida” as questionable when they take on the San Antonio Spurs tonight in Texas.
Mitchell’s absence, if he’s sidelined, will be a big blow to the Cavs. He is their leading scorer and has made Cleveland a legit threat to emerge from the East.
The three-time NBA All-Star is averaging a career-high 29.0 points to go with 4.0 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 23 games. Caris LeVert will likely take his place in the starting lineup if he’s in street clothes tonight.
Robert Williams: Left knee surgery; Injured since the offseason
The Boston Celtics, who own the NBA’s best record, are still waiting for Robert Williams' debut this season. Boston’s once fearsome defense hasn’t had the bite it had last season when Williams was anchoring it.
Boston are 3-1 in their current six-game road trip and will face the LA Clippers tonight without their defensive lynchpin. Blake Griffin could start as the Celtics’ center again as Al Horford is also ruled out for personal reasons.
Williams could play against the LA Lakers on Tuesday or he could make his NBA debut next Friday at TD Garden against the Orlando Magic.
