NBA Injury Report: Jaylen Brown out, Kevin Love probable and more updates on Kyle Lowry and Derrick White | February 27, 2023
The Boston Celtics, the NBA’s reigning Eastern Conference champs, will not have Jaylen Brown on Monday night against the New York Knicks for personal reasons.
Brown previously missed the Celtics' last five games due to a fractured face. However, he did play in the team’s first game coming from the All-Star break versus the Philadelphia 76ers.
The two-time NBA All-Star will miss just his 11th game of the season and will not travel with the team when they visit Madison Square Garden to take on the Knicks.
Jaylen Brown led the Cs in scoring with 26 points last Saturday against the 76ers. The win kept Boston (44-17) ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks (43-17) by just half a game for the best record in the Eastern Conference.
Brown is averaging career-high numbers in points (26.5), rebounds (7.0), field-goal percentage (48.6%) and minutes played (35.7) this season. Several members of Joe Mazzulla’s squad will have to step up to make up for Brown’s contributions.
Derrick White, who has had an incredible season for the Celtics, could take Jaylen Brown’s starting point guard spot.
Meanwhile, former NBA All-Star Kevin Love has been ruled probable by the Miami Heat due to a hyperextended left knee. Miami’s newly-acquired power forward reportedly played through the injury against the Charlotte Hornets last Saturday.
Love played 26 minutes and finished with 13 points, 13 rebounds and two assists in a losing cause. The former Cleveland Cavaliers star has already seen action for his new team in two games. He is averaging 6.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists since the trade.
If the former NBA Most Improved Player winner is not available, Erik Spoelstra could reinstate Caleb Martin into the starting unit. The Heat are on a four-game losing streak and will be hard-pressed to snap out of it without Bam Adebayo’s new frontcourt partner.
Kyle Lowry: Left knee soreness; Injured since February 2, 2023
Kyle Lowry last played for the Miami Heat last Feb. 2 against the New York Knicks due to an ailing left knee. He has been upgraded to questionable by the Heat for tonight’s matchup versus the Philadelphia 76ers.
The 2019 NBA champ has played just 44 of Miami’s 61 games due to a variety of injuries. He is averaging 12.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game. The point guard has struggled with his shooting this season when he has been available.
The former NBA All-Star is averaging just 39.6% from the field, including 33.3% from behind the arc. Gabe Vincent should continue handling starting point guard duties if Lowry misses yet another game.
Derrick White: Right ankle sprain; Injured since February 25, 2023
Derrick White has been ruled probable by the Boston Celtics for Monday night's game against the New York Knicks. He tweaked his right ankle last Saturday versus the Philadelphia 76ers. The injury, though, is not expected to keep him out of the game.
The Celtics will be without Jaylen Brown, so White’s availability will be very important. White is averaging 18.5 points, 5.6 assists and 4.3 rebounds in 13 games as a starter.
