NBA Injury Report: LeBron James questionable, Donovan Mitchell questionable and more updates on Domantas Sabonis and Trae Young | January 20, 2023

LeBron James, the four-time NBA MVP, remains on the LA Lakers’ injury report as questionable when they host the Memphis Grizzlies tonight. He is reportedly still playing through a sore left ankle.

With the way “King James” has been playing, it doesn’t look like he’s suffering through anything. The soon-to-be 19x NBA All-Star has been on a tear since Anthony Davis injured his foot. Over his past 15 games, James is averaging 34.1 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.8 assists.

LeBron James is being listed as questionable for Friday’s game against the Grizzlies.

The LA Lakers superstar is making 55.1% of his shots despite the miserable 24.7% clip from behind the arc. He has been on an incredible run, but his team isn’t making headway up the Western Conference standings.

LeBron James has been designated questionable for more than a week but has mostly played in those games. It’s anybody’s guess if the Lakers will make him available, as Darvin Ham previously noted that the team is worried about his minutes and usage.

If he sits out tonight, he could return to action on Sunday when the LA Lakers travel to Portland for a match against the Trail Blazers.

Meanwhile, Donovan Mitchell, the three-time NBA All-Star guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers, has been upgraded to questionable. He played only 22 minutes in the Cavaliers’ 113-103 win over the New Orleans Pelicans due to a strained left groin.

Cleveland designated him as doubtful in their next game versus the Memphis Grizzlies before the Cavs eventually sidelined him. There is some hope that he could play tonight when the Cavaliers host the reigning NBA champs, the Golden State Warriors.

#Cavs Donovan Mitchell (groin) is listed QUESTIONABLE for tomorrow night against Golden State.

Donovan Mitchell has already missed six of the Cleveland Cavaliers' 46 games this season. He could add to that tally if he does not significantly improve after their morning shootaround. Caris LeVert will continue to be in the starting lineup if Mitchell is in street clothes tonight.

Domantas Sabonis: Non-Covid illness since January 18, 2023

Two-time NBA All-Star Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings is questionable to play tonight.
Two-time NBA All-Star Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings is questionable to play tonight.

Domantas Sabonis wasn’t with the Sacramento Kings when his team beat the LA Lakers last Wednesday due to a non-Covid related illness. He had only missed one game this season before his unavailability during the said matchup.

The two-time NBA All-Star has been upgraded to questionable, although he still has not practiced with the Kings yet. His status for tonight’s encounter with the OKC Thunder will largely depend on how he’s feeling during pregame warmups.

Domantas Sabonis (illness) listed questionable for Friday.

Domantas Sabonis has been a big part of the Kings’ surprising season. He is averaging 18.9 points, a league-best 12.6 rebounds and 7.1 assists. “Domas” also leads the NBA in double-doubles with 32 in 41 games.

Sacramento will have a very good chance of extending their five-game winning streak to six if the versatile big man is on the floor. If Sabonis sits out his second straight game, Richaun Holmes will continue to take his place in the Kings’ starting unit.

Trae Young: Left ankle soreness; Injured since January 18, 2023

Trae Young's availability tonight is uncertain.
Trae Young's availability tonight is uncertain.

It looked like Trae Young couldn’t finish the game between the Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks last Wednesday due to discomfort in his ankle. He returned just in time to play a crucial role in Atlanta’s 130-122 over Dallas.

The Hawks have officially listed him as questionable for tonight’s encounter against the New York Knicks. His availability will be clearer once he gets through this morning’s shootaround.

An @emoryhealthcare injury report for tomorrow’s game vs. New York:

Bogdan Bogdanovic (right knee soreness): Questionable
Trae Young (left ankle soreness): Questionable https://t.co/wpFdNcBtY4

Aaron Holiday could be inserted into the starting unit if “Ice Trae” is out.
