NBA Injury Report: Luka Doncic questionable, Devin Booker questionable and updates on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dejounte Murray | December 19, 2022
Three-time NBA All-Star Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks has been listed as questionable for tonight’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The superstar point guard is dealing with a right quadricep strain.
Doncic didn’t play last Saturday in the Mavericks’ overtime loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. “Luka Legend” will miss just his fourth game of the season if he’s in street clothes in Minnesota.
The Slovenian basketball star has consistently been in NBA MVP conversations this season. He will be sorely missed if he’s on the bench again when the Mavericks take on the Timberwolves.
Doncic is averaging 33.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 8.7 assists and 1.6 steals in 27 games. Despite all the attention given to him on defense, he is hitting a career-best 49.9% of his field goals.
The Mavericks got a big lift from former NBA All-Star Kemba Walker without Luka Doncic in the loss to the Cavs. Walker had a team-high 32 points and seven assists. He will likely be in the starting lineup if the Slovenian misses another game.
Meanwhile, Devin Booker could also miss the Phoenix Suns’ match against the LA Lakers tonight. The Suns have listed him as questionable due to groin soreness.
The three-time NBA All-Star dropped a season-high 58 points in the Suns’ win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday. He showed no sign of the injury that could cause him to be in street clothes when Phoenix hosts LeBron James and the LA Lakers.
“Book” missed two games a week ago due to hamstring tightness. Those have been the only times he wasn’t on the floor to help the Suns this season in 30 games.
Booker could make another NBA All-Star team this season if he sustains his blistering form. He is averaging a career-high 28.0 points on 47.7% shooting from the field, including 37.0% from deep.
Landry Shamet and Damion Lee could see more playing time if Booker is sidelined.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander: Lower back contusion; Injured since December 17, 2022
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will miss the OKC Thunder’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers tonight. He will miss his second consecutive game due to a lower back contusion. “SGA” was sidelined in the Thunder’s surprising 115-109 win against the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday.
Gilgeous-Alexander will miss just the fourth match in 31 games this season for the Thunder. He is on track to possibly make his first NBA All-Star selection this season. He is averaging 31.2 points, which is more than a seven-point improvement from last season.
“SGA” is also giving OKC 4.7 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.7 steals.
The Thunder will also miss Josh Giddey so everyone’s minutes are expected to go up without two of OKC’s best players.
There is no timetable yet for Gilgeous-Alexander’s return.
Dejounte Murray: Left ankle sprain; Injured since December 7, 2022
Dejounte Murray has been upgraded to questionable for the Atlanta Hawks in their game tonight versus the streaking Orlando Magic. The first-time NBA All-Star has missed the past five games due to a left ankle sprain. He suffered the injury in the Hawks’ 113-89 loss to the New York Knicks last December 7.
If the Atlanta Hawks keep him sidelined, it shouldn’t be very long before Trae Young’s backcourt partner is back in action. Trent Forrest and Aaron Holiday will continue to get more minutes if Murray remains out.
