NBA Injury Report: Steph Curry questionable, Jayson Tatum questionable and more updates on Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving (March 17, 2023)
Two-time NBA MVP Steph Curry’s availability is iffy tonight for the Golden State Warriors. He is dealing with left thumb soreness, which could push him to sit out tonight’s game against the Atlanta Hawks.
Curry didn’t look like he had anything bothering him as he exploded for 50 points on a 20-28 shooting versus the LA Clippers last Wednesday. Losing the reigning NBA Finals MVP to yet another injury will be very unfortunate.
“Chef Curry” has played six straight games since sitting out for close to a month due to a leg/shin injury. The Warriors will be hard-pressed to win tonight’s matchup against the Hawks as they already don’t have the suspended Draymond Green.
Andrew Wiggins is also still not available for personal reasons while Andre Iguodala is recovering from surgery on his left wrist.
Steph Curry will be badly needed as the Warriors try to snap a nine-game road losing streak. Golden State hasn’t won away from San Francisco since January 30 when they beat the OKC Thunder.
Jordan Poole, Donte DiVincenzo and Moses Moody will get more responsibilities if the nine-time NBA All-Star is unavailable.
Meanwhile, Jayson Tatum could be sidelined tonight for the Boston Celtics when they take on the Portland Trail Blazers. The NBA All-Star game MVP suffered a hard fall in their close 104-102 win against the Minnesota Timberwolves last Wednesday.
After his dunk, which resulted in his fall, Tatum writhed in pain. It took him some time to get off the floor before gingerly walking to the bench.
Tatum, as always, has been very durable this season, having missed just five of the Boston Celtics’ 70 games. He could make it six tonight if the pain and discomfort don’t subside. Boston will be monitoring him after this morning's shootaround.
Jaylen Brown will take on more of the scoring load if the four-time NBA All-Star is unavailable. Derek White could be inserted into the starting unit if Tatum is sidelined.
Luka Doncic: Left thigh contusion; Injured since: March 11, 2023
Luka Doncic has been ruled out yet again by the Dallas Mavericks. He will not be available tonight versus the LA Lakers. This will be the fourth consecutive game that “Luka Legend” will be sidelined due to a left thigh contusion.
Doncic’s exclusion from tonight’s game came as a surprise as he was a full participant in the team’s practice last Thursday. Knowing how much he has been playing and the load he has been carrying, Dallas may just be extremely cautious with the All-NBA guard.
Jaden Hardy is expected to take his spot in the starting unit.
Kyrie Irving: Right foot soreness; Injured since: March 11, 2023
The Dallas Mavericks ruled Kyrie Irving questionable for the fourth straight game. He missed the previous three due to right foot soreness.
Irving’s absence has coincided with Luka Doncic’s injury, which has left the Mavericks’ in an unenviable situation. Doncic is ruled out tonight, which makes Irving’s availability even more crucial.
Dallas is just 1-2 in this recent stretch with their NBA All-Stars. It took them overtime to beat the lowly San Antonio Spurs last Wednesday. They’ll be facing tougher resistance from the LA Lakers at Crypto.com Arena.
