"The opt-in on his contract next summer is probably the most likely scenario"- NBA insider believes Golden State Warriors star is likely to take up player option on his contract next summer
After the Golden State Warriors announced contract extensions for both Jordan Poole and Andrew Wiggins, many are wondering where that leaves Draymond Green. Green will turn 33 next year and has a player option for the 2023-24 NBA season.
On "NBA Today," ESPN analyst Adrian Wojnarowski said he believes that Green opting into his contract next summer is the most likely scenario:
"I think there is a lot of time left for the Warriors and Draymond Green to make that decision on a contract extension, but certainly I think the opt in on his contract next summer is probably the most likely scenario."
Jordan Poole has become one of the top rising stars of this Warriors team and was rewarded with a four-year, $140 million extension. Meanwhile, Andrew Wiggins agreed to a four-year, $109 million extension recently.
Eyes on the future for Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green
Basketball fans will continue to monitor the future of Golden State Warriors star forward Draymond Green. After the recent physical altercation with teammate Jordan Poole, many believe this could be Green's last season with the Warriors.
General manager Bob Myers could have some difficult decisions to make as the team prioritizes keeping the core players together. According to a recent report, the organization's salary bill could exceed $500 million in 2023-24 if Draymond Green opts in to his $27.6 million player option.
With a number of young players waiting in line for a new contract, it's going to be difficult for the Warriors to keep everyone. It will be interesting to see what the franchise decides to do with Green. For now, Green will have his focus on the 2022-23 season as the team looks to defend their title.
The Warriors' first regular season match is against the Lakers on Oct. 19.
