NBA Insider Bill Simmons drops cryptic take on Anthony Edwards' next destination

Anthony Edwards has been superb for Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics. “Ant-Man” considers himself the No. 1 option in a roster featuring LeBron James, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant. Although he hasn’t started one game in the tournament, there have been multiple instances where he seemed like Steve Kerr’s best player.

The All-Star guard’s athleticism, energy, confidence and shotmaking have been on display in the Olympics. Edwards’ impact isn’t on the offense alone as he relishes the chance to guard the opposing team’s best player. The Minnesota Timberwolves franchise cornerstone has been so good that many already see him as USA Basketball’s future star.

NBA insider Bill Simmons has noticed something in Anthony Edwards in Paris. Here’s what he had to say about the high-leaping guard in his podcast:

“When does the first, you know, Ant Edwards really loves Bam and Spoelstra and his experience with them. Don’t be surprised…. Story drop. Am I dropping it now??”

Edwards played under Steve Kerr in the 2023 FIBA World Cup where the Americans failed to get a medal. He is one of only two players from that team that had been brought back to play in the Olympics. One of Kerr’s assistant coaches in that tournament, who is also in Paris, was Heat head tactician Erik Spoelstra.

Anthony Edwards is also playing for the first time with Bam Adebayo, one of Spoelstra’s key men in South Beach. Like “Ant-Man” Adebayo has made an impact in Paris as part of the bench mob. The chemistry between the two has been improving and they’ve been having fun sharing the court.

Bill Simmons didn’t offer any explanation as to why he thought rumors of Edwards to Miami could start. The two-time All-Star’s five-year, $244.6 million contract will kick in starting the 2024-25 season. Minnesota’s not trading its franchise cornerstone.

Anthony Edwards and Bam Adebayo will have key roles against Serbia in the semi-finals

Steve Kerr has found a second unit that has been doing damage on both ends of the floor for Team USA. A lineup featuring Bam Adebayo, Kevin Durant, Anthony Edwards, Anthony Davis and Derrick White has been devastating. In the Americans’ 103-86 win against South Sudan, it was this quintet that turned a somewhat close game into a comfortable ending.

In Team USA’s 122-87 victory over Brazil in the quarter-finals, Kerr used this combination again to erase all hopes of a comeback by the Selecao. The five have been unforgiving on defense while their offense has been humming. Kerr will likely continue using them in the semi-finals against the Nikola Jokic-led Serbia.

Bill Simmons has already dropped a story that might or might not be a headline in the future. But for now, the NBA insider and Team USA fans can concentrate on cheering them on to win the gold medal in a few days.
