NBA insider reveals Julius Randle's return timeline on Timberwolves

Since being traded from the New York Knicks, Julius Randle has not played for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Following recent developments, a return date has been picked out for the three-time All-Star.

About midway through last season, Randle suffered a shoulder injury that kept him sidelined for an extended period. After trying to rehab and return without surgery, he finally opted to have a procedure done in early April. This officially ruled him out for the Knicks as they geared up for a playoff push.

When Randle first underwent surgery, it was cited that he'd be ready for the 2024-25 season. That appears to be the case, as NBA insider Chris Haynes reported the veteran forward will be in the lineup Wednesday against the Chicago Bulls.

With Randle set to debut, the new-look Timberwolves will now have a chance to integrate their top new addition. As a former All-Star, Randle will be called upon as a top option in the offense behind emerging superstar Anthony Edwards.

Before getting injured last season, Randle was still a star-caliber player. Across 46 games with the Knicks, he averaged 24.0 points, 9.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists.

Julius Randle keeps it real on his return to New York with Timberwolves

Sometimes, NBA players go months before being paired with their former team. Things didn't play out that way for Julius Randle, as he was back in Madison Square Garden weeks after being traded.

While he didn't play in the game, Randle was still on the sidelines as the Minnesota Timberwolves battled the New York Knicks in preseason action. During a stoppage in the action, a video tribute was played for Randle following a five-year run with the franchise.

After Sunday's matchup, Randle was asked about his time with the Knicks.

“It’s finished now,” Randle said. “I got unfinished business where I’m at.”

Following stints with the LA Lakers and New Orleans Pelicans, Randle was given a chance to be a focal point with the Knicks. He'd get some of the best years of his career in New York, most notably making an All-NBA team on two occasions.

Given that he can't change what happened, Randle focuses on the future. While in a new situation, he still finds himself on a competitive team with big goals. The Timberwolves are fresh off making the conference finals and still feel they're a top team in the Western Conference. Randle will now be slotted in as someone who will attempt to help Edwards and Co. get over the hump.
