NBA players react to Luka Doncic's awe-inspiring performance: “That was a MyCareer type performance”, “There will be another statue in Dallas”
Dallas Mavericks superstar guard Luka Doncic set NBA Twitter on fire after his historic performance in the Mavs’ 126-121 win over New York on Tuesday. Doncic finished with a career-high and franchise-best 60 points, a career-high 21 rebounds and 10 assists in the game.
In doing so, he became the first player with a 60-point, 20-rebound triple-double in NBA history. Doncic’s performance also included him hitting a tough putback shot to force overtime and then him scoring seven of the Mavs’ 11 points in overtime. According to Brooklyn Nets superstar forward Kevin Durant, Doncic played like he was a MyCareer player in NBA2K:
“That was a MyCareer type performance from Luka tonight. Some video game sh*t."
However, Durant wasn’t the only NBA player to speak out in awe of Doncic’s record-breaking night. So on that note, here are some other players’ reactions to Doncic’s historic 60-point triple-double:
Both current and former players reacted to Luka Doncic’s big night. This included Boston Celtics legends Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. Garnett alluded to the fact that Doncic is an all-time great by saying that he will receive a statue in Dallas one day. This comes following Mavs legend Dirk Nowitzki’s statue unveiling on Sunday.
Pierce added that Doncic is the best offensive player in the NBA today.
Meanwhile, Atlanta Hawks All-Star point guard Trae Young, who was traded for Doncic on draft night back in 2018, touched on Doncic’s effortless play style.
Chicago Bulls stars Nikola Vucevic and DeMar DeRozan were both blown away by Doncic’s performance as well.
“This dude Luka!!” from DeMar DeRozan.
A couple of Washington Wizards players then joined in on the action too, including Kyle Kuzma and Doncic’s former teammate, Kristaps Porzingis:
Finally, some of Doncic’s Mavericks teammates showed some support for their team’s star as well. This included the Mavs’ second-leading scorer, Christian Wood, who said he would be sending Doncic a goat following his GOAT-like performance:
Mavs guard Theo Pinson added that Doncic has to be in the top three in the MVP race moving forward:
Luka Doncic leads the Mavericks to their fourth straight win
The performance was spectacular and the result was all important. Following their fourth straight win, the Mavericks are 19-16 and sixth in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, Luka Doncic is second in the NBA in scoring at 33.6 points per game.
A 126-121 win over New York was essential to keep their momentum going forward. Scoring a career-high and franchise-best 60 points, a career-high 21 rebounds and 10 assists in the game is something Doncic will doubtless remember for the rest of his life. Confidence is high, as it should be.
If the Mavs can continue their upward trend, that should only help Doncic’s MVP case moving forward.
