NBCS Boston celebrates Celtics' 18th NBA championship with brazen Lakers dig: "Includes Disney World Title"
The NBA season tips off on Tuesday night, and the Boston Celtics begin their season with a matchup versus the Minnesota Timberwolves on opening night. Boston's longtime rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, will also suit up on opening night, taking on the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Ahead of the Celtics' game versus the Knicks, NBC Sports Boston showed an updated NBA championship count after Boston's 2023-24 title. The broadcast's list took a subtle dig at the Lakers, highlighting the 2019-20 title.
The list shows Boston having the most championships of any team in the NBA with 18 but highlighted the Lakers at 17. The list featured a footnote that read, "Includes Disney World Title," referring to Los Angeles' championship in the NBA bubble. The bubble was built in Orlando, Florida, at the Walt Disney World Resort, where the league played for 93 days.
In the bubble, Los Angeles defeated the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals in six games, tying up the title count with the Celtics at 17 championships. The tie lasted for three seasons until Boston broke the record once again.
