New Orleans Pelicans vs Dallas Mavericks player stats and box score (Feb. 21) | 2024-25 NBA season

The depleted Dallas Mavericks continued to defy expectations, taking down the tough New Orleans Pelicans 111-103 at American Airlines Center on Friday. Despite facing criticism after trading Luka Doncic and dealing with multiple frontcourt injuries, the Mavericks extended their winning streak to three.

Kyrie Irving led the charge, dropping 35 points on 11-for-22 shooting. P.J. Washington added 23, while Klay Thompson knocked down four 3s en route to 12 points.

The Mavericks' bench provided a huge boost, with Max Christie and Naji Marshall combining for 31 points.

New Orleans Pelicans vs Dallas Mavericks: Game recap

Two teams that made significant trades this season faced off in Friday night’s matchup between the New Orleans Pelicans and Dallas Mavericks. This marked their fourth meeting, with Dallas having won two of the first three.

With the injury-plagued Mavericks relying heavily on Kyrie Irving, the star guard set the tone early, scoring nine points in the first quarter as Dallas jumped ahead 32-22.

The Pelicans responded with a furious comeback to start the second quarter, taking a one-point lead after Jose Alvarado capped a 16-5 run with a three-pointer. However, the Mavericks regained control and headed into halftime up 56-53.

P.J. Washington led all scorers with 20 first-half points, while Irving and Max Christie added 14 and 12, respectively.

For the Pelicans, Zion Williamson posted 15 points, and Trey Murphy III chipped in 13 through the first two quarters.

The game stayed tight through the third quarter, but the Mavericks pushed their lead to 10 with 9:21 left after Washington split a pair of free throws. Murphy responded with a three, cutting it to 97-94 with 5:19 remaining.

From there, Dallas took control, and Irving buried a clutch three in the final minute, sealing the win with a 109-99 lead.
