"Not falling in line" - Former Mavs owner Mark Cuban lauds Kamala Harris for not toeing Democratic Party line
Former Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has been openly critical of Donald Trump recently, ahead of the 2024 Presidential election. Although Cuban had initially backed Trump in the upcoming US election, he changed his mind after speaking with the embattled former president on the phone.
At the same time, Cuban has begun backing Trump's upcoming opponent, Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. During the Democratic National Convention this week, Cuban took to X (formerly Twitter) to weigh in on the situation.
Cuban explained that Harris isn't following the status quo of her party and is instead redefining the democratic party as a whole. In response to Cuban's post, many social media users began to debate the former Mavericks owner's claim, questioning Harris' policies, or in some cases the lack thereof.
"Kamala Harris is not falling in line with Democratic Party Policies, Cuban posted on X. "Kamala Harris is defining her own policies, and the Democratic Party is falling in line with her. She literally is redefining the party."
Looking at Mark Cuban's recent comments about Donald Trump ahead of the upcoming US election
Cuban and Trump have connections going back over a decade, with the pair photographed side by side at a press conference in 2009 for the Affliction M-1 Global MMA trilogy event, which was held at Trump Tower.
While the two had connections long before Trump entered politics, Cuban shared his perspective during an appearance on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" earlier this week, explaining why he can't support Trump in the upcoming election.
He noted that he briefly considered supporting Trump because he saw the businessman as someone who didn't fit the mold of a traditional politician. Additionally, Cuban saw common ground between himself and Trump, given the fact that both are businessmen.
After speaking with the former President on the phone, Cuban realized that he and Trump shared incredibly different views on things.
"We were talking about this one debate for CNBC that he wasn't going to be at — I'm like, Donald, why don't you go to a local small business and sit there at the table and show off your business chops and show people you're a businessman."
"He goes, 'Mark, Donald Trump and Mark Cuban don't go to people's houses and have dinner, are you kidding me?' That's who he is."
In addition, Cuban also cited Trump's divisive comments as one of the main reasons he can't stand behind the candidate.
