"Only guy cheaper than you is CP3" - Fat Joe playfully jabs at Carmelo Anthony & Chris Paul over signature sneakers
Carmelo Anthony was hilariously called out by the American rapper Fat Joe for being cheap. The "All The Way Up" singer appeared on the latest episode of Melo's podcast "7 PM in Brooklyn" and took a playful jab at the former New York Knicks star for not giving him sneakers.
During the candid conversation, Fat Joe said he had repeatedly asked Anthony for his sneakers but never received them. Joe then brought Chris Paul into the conversation and even called him out for being even cheaper than Melo.
"Let's talk about Melo being cheap," the conversation began."You know how many times I have begged this man to give me sneakers and he is just like yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But I am like you got'em though. This guy got everything. Only guy cheaper than you is CP3. He's cheap."
"He got all type of shi*t going on like him and he won't give it up. And every time I see him, he lies. 'Yo I got you Joe.'"
Carmelo Anthony was selected third overall in the 2003 Draft and signed with the Air Jordan Brand. Over his 19-season career, he collaborated with the Jordan Brand to launch multiple signature shoe lines. The final signature shoe released by the brand was the Melo M13.
Fat Joe once picked Carmelo Anthony in counter to LeBron James in the "greatest" streetball game that never happened
Some of the greatest NBA players have played at Rucker Park in New York. However, in 2003, rappers Jay-Z and Fat Joe planned to organize a street basketball game at the same place, featuring LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony on opposing teams.
The date was set for August 14, 2003; Melo, LeBron, Shaquille O'Neal, Yao Ming and the other best players in the league would face each other. Jay-Z had selected the four-time NBA champion, who hadn't even played his first game in the league on his "Team S. Carter" squad.
Fat Joe chose Carmelo Anthony on his 'Team Terror Squad' because according to the Puerto Rican rapper, Melo wanted to go against James.
“Carmelo Anthony wanted to come because LeBron James was on Jay-Z’s team,” Fat Joe said. “They wanted to get at it.”
However, the game never happened because of the Northeast Blackout in 2003, which is primarily considered the biggest blackout in American history. The city was in darkness for two days, and the game never took place because there was no light.
In 2018, the Slam magazine named the event "The Greatest Game That Never Was." James had Jay Z and Shaq on his side, Carmelo had Fat Joe, Yao Ming and Allen Iverson. In 2018, Fresh Focus Sports released the documentary "The Blackout," which documents the hype around the event.
