"Own that poverty franchise": Fans react after Trae Young responds to Detroit Pistons' savage post referencing Hawks star's remark

Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks lost 122-121 to the Detroit Pistons on Friday. After the game, the Pistons’ social media account went on X, formerly Twitter, to tell the Hawks to "take y'all *** home."

The shot earned a message from Trae 'Ice Trae' Young.

Young, renowned for his savage trash-talking, took the trolling in stride:

“When I talk I be giving em captions.”

Fans reacted to Young's comment following the Pistons' ribbing:

"Own that poverty franchise."

Another fan commented:

"You just lost to the Detroit Pistons in the big 2024 pipe down lil bro."

The Hawks entered the fourth quarter trailing 95-85. Trae Young had 10 points and seven assists to nearly drag his team to the finish line ahead of the Pistons. Cade Cunningham saved the home team with crucial plays on both ends.

Young made two free throws to give the Hawks a 121-120 lead. Following a Pistons timeout, Cunningham responded with a lefty layup to give the lead back to the hosts.

The No. 1 pick in the 2021 draft sealed the win with an impressive block against Onyeka Okungwu’s potential game-winning dunk. Young would have gotten another assist had Okungwu been more forceful with his final attempt.

Trae Young finished the game with 35 points, 13 assists, two rebounds and two steals.

Trae Young’s Hawks will meet three more times in the regular season

After the first salvo fired by the Detroit Pistons, Trae Young looks forward to “giving em captions” next time. The rematch between the Hawks and the Pistons will be on Jan. 23 in Atlanta. They will face each other twice more in February.

Last season, the Hawks swept the hapless Pistons in three regular-season meetings. The Motor City team appears to be stronger this time after retooling in the offseason.

Cade Cunningham and Co. already have wins against the LA Lakers, the Hawks, the Brooklyn Nets and the Philadelphia 76ers. They have a little more reason to talk, an opportunity they took against Atlanta.

Young loves the trash-talking from opposing teams and their fans. The Hawks-Pistons series this season will be more exciting following Young’s vow to get back at their opponents.
