P.J. Washington recreating THAT iconic pose again after sending Mavs to Western Conference Finals has wife amped: "Yeaaa bae pop it"
P.J. Washington's iconic pose has taken over all Mavericks fans, especially his wife, Alisah Chanel. Washington hit the pose after playing a crucial role in Dallas' Game 6 win against the OKC Thunder, which sent the team to the Western Conference finals. As the veteran forward celebrated on the floor, he turned around while holding the pose to hype the home crowd at the American Airlines Center.
Alisah, who was also at the game, posted a video of Washington's celebrations with the fans on her Instagram story.
"Yeaaa bae pop it," Alisah captioned it.
Alisah has attended nearly every game in the NBA playoffs and has often been to Washington's regular season games as well, even when he was in Charlotte before the trade deadline. The couple started dating four years ago and married on Oct. 28, 2023. They have a son together.
Origins of P.J. Washington's iconic pose
Washington's pose went viral during the Mavericks' first-round series against the LA Clippers in Game 3 after he got ejected for an altercation with Russell Westbrook. He folded his arms with a straight face to express how unfazed he was amid that heated moment.
It soon became one of his statement celebrations following the hype surrounding it after he posted it on Instagram.
"Im Mr ain't goin," Washington wrote on the post.
P.J. Washington's Instagram display pic is a caricature version of that iconic pose. Amid his 2024 NBA Playoffs surge, the Texas native has become a fan favorite with the Mavericks and has cemented himself after Saturday's clutch performance to guide Dallas to the finals.
P.J. Washington rounds off a phenomenal series vs. OKC perfectly
Washington has been a pivotal addition to the Dallas Mavericks, and he's proving himself in the playoffs. He was the difference-maker down the stretch for the Mavericks after knocking down a go-ahead 3-point jumper with 2:01 left on the clock and the game tied at 110-110.
Washington gave the Mavericks a win on the most crucial play of the night with just over two seconds to spare. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander fouled him on a 3-point attempt with OKC up one and likely headed to a win. However, Washington closed the deal by executing the plan.
He knocked down the first two free throws and intentionally missed the last. That limited the Thunder's chance of getting the ball out of bounds and throwing up a game-tying or go-ahead shot with 2.1 seconds left.
What made P.J. Washington's stellar outing in the clutch more impressive was that he played only eight minutes in the first half because of foul trouble and had zero points entering the final frame, scoring all his 9 points in that stretch.
Washington also played excellent defense on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for most of the fourth quarter.
