Paolo Banchero Injury update: Paolo Banchero is out against Phoenix Suns due to left ankle sprain
Star rookie Paolo Banchero of the Orlando Magic will miss his second game in a row due to a left ankle sprain. Orlando hosts the Phoenix Suns on Friday night.
Banchero didn't play against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday after suffering the injury against the Houston Rockets on Monday. The No. 1 overall pick landed awkwardly after he attempted a drive towards the rim during the fourth period. Although he finished the game, he hasn't played since.
The Magic are 3-9 this season, gettingf their third win against the Mavericks 94-87.
There are no clear answers as to when Banchero will return. But given that it's an ankle sprain, he could be back in the lineup next week. According to Magic coach Jamahl Mosley, Banchero is listed as day-to-day. The coaching staff isn't rushing in an attempt to make sure the forward is healthy on his return.

Paolo Banchero should win Rookie of the Year
Paolo Banchero has outperformed every other rookie in the NBA this season. Even Indiana Pacers' rookie Bennedict Mathurin, who's been sensational this year, has been overshadowed by Banchero's play. The No. 1 pick started off strong, with multiple 20-point game performances.
Before getting injured, Banchero score 30 points against the Rockets. It was a followup to his 33-point performance against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday. Although they haven't won many games this season, fans still watch Magic games because of Banchero.
The Magic forward is averaging 23.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists. He's also shooting 46.1%, including 25.6% from downtown. Banchero is doing things that not a lot of first-year players have been able to do. His offensive game is up to par with some of the current stars in the NBA.
The half-Italian rookie is the next big thing for Orlando. The Magic have a great squad that has immense potential to be one of the best teams one day. Many are hoping that the front office will help the development of the young core by adding key pieces around Banchero, Franz Wagner and Wendell Carter Jr.
