Patrick Beverley firmly rejects accusations of hurling infamous lines at Steph Curry: "It wasn't ever like 5 years"
Former NBA guard Patrick Beverley denied claims about his trash talk with Steph Curry in 2019 in the new episode of his podcast on Wednesday, Sept. 4. According to the veteran guard, what circulated in 2019 weren't his exact words.
During a regular season game between the Golden State Warriors and LA Clippers, Beverley had something to say to the star guard. During the second quarter, the former Clippers guard forced a turnover on his opponent and prompted him to say this:
"You had the last five years. The next five years are mine."
Curry laughed at what Beverley said.
"Aren’t you 31?" Curry replied.
Those weren't the exact words that Beverley told Curry, or so he claims. The two-way guard claimed that he told the Warriors star something else.
"Nah," Beverley denied. "The Clippers, we just put the monster team together as we thought, right? As we thought, looking back on it. It was like, 'Nah, you had your time and now it was time to switch it up.' It wasn't ever like 5 years, nah.
"But it was good, so you know I'm like, 'Okay, alright. Let me run with this.' The internet is the internet. It played out the way it was supposed to play."
Sean Deveney of Heavy reported in 2019 about the exchange between the two guards. Unfortunately for the defensive guard, after five years, he is out of the league and is now playing overseas.
In the NBA Playoffs, Beverley never got close to winning a championship as he didn't reach the Finals with any of the teams that he joined.
Patrick Beverley is loving his new home
After his stint in the NBA, Patrick Beverley was offered to play in Israel. Beverley joined the Hapoel Tel Aviv over the summer and is enjoying his time in the city that he's in.
The veteran guard told his co-host, Rone, that each day feels like living in paradise.
"I'm waking up in paradise, everday," Beverley said. "The sun is pink when it sets, they're giving me private beaches to go to ... I'm staying in this big a**, huge mansion villa."
Patrick Beverley claimed that Tel Aviv is one of the best places he's been to in his basketball career. The former NBA guard spoke highly of the food, people and ambiance he gets to experience.
He may not have won a title in the last five years, but at least he's getting treated like a superstar in Israel.
