PHOTO: Generations of greatness as LeBron James and Bronny James join Griffeys for iconic photo
Before tipoff of the game between the LA Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday, LeBron James and his son, Bronny, had a picture taken with baseball legends Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. The Griffeys were at Crypto.com Arena to witness the father-son duo share the court.
Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. were the first active father-son duo in baseball. They earned the distinction in 1987, although it wasn't until 1990 that they became teammates and played for the Mariners together.
LeBron James and Bronny are now the first active father-son duo in NBA history and the fourth such duo in sports. Aside from the Griffeys, the NHL had Gordie, Mark and Marty Howe, and MLB had Tim Raines and Tim Raines Jr.
LeBron James and Bronny make their official debut in the 2nd quarter of Lakers vs. Timberwolves season opener
LeBron James and Bronny made history as the first active father-son duo in the NBA in the second quarter of the LA Lakers' opening-night clash against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The two checked in together with four minutes left in the second quarter, which riled up fans in attendance.
The James family, including Savannah, Bryce and Zhuri, were in attendance to witness the historic moment.
Once the Jameses were on the court together, LeBron tried to help his son find his rhythm. He set his son up for a couple of shots, but the Timberwolves didn't make it easy for Bronny.
Anthony Edwards had his teammates set multiple screens so he could guard Bronny closely, and when Bronny attempted to tip in a missed shot, Rudy Gobert blocked him.
LeBron found his son open for an elbow 3, but he missed the shot following Joe Ingles' late contest.
It was a classic "Welcome to the NBA" moment for Bronny, as Minnesota didn't go easy on him. Still, it's a huge huge milestone for LeBron James, as not many players can say they've shared the court with their son at the professional level.
